This was my second time at Crystal, but I have been in Ghana about 8 times. You won't find a better place anywhere in Accra for that price. If you are looking for an authentic Accra / Ghana, than this is the place to stay. The owners are very kind and helpfull. Other visitors there stay for short as well as long terms, but it's a good place to meet other travellers and exchange your experience anyway. Whenever I'm in Accra again, I will definitly go there !!! Thanks for a very good time.

Crystal Hostel is only 10km from the city centre. Hotels and hostels in the city centre are far more expensive and none can match our price, facilities we offer and the atmosphere in Crystal Hostel. It is far more easier to get to the city centre from our place than from anywhere else in the city. It is also much easier to connect to any part of Accra from our place.

The staff weren't very welcoming and only the people that were staying there made my stay nice. It's too far from the airport to warrant just a one night stop over as the transport to it costs more than the room!

We have said in our profile that we are 12km from the airport so Kathryn should know where to choose to stay if she wanted a place nearer the airport. We are therefore at a loss why Kathryn chose to stay with us for an overnight stay. There is no where in Accra where Kathryn could get a place to stay for our price and facilities we provide and there is no hotel near the airport which is charging less than $80.00 a night. All the people Kathryn met in the house and who made her stay nice have been the house for at least two weeks, some for as long as 2 months. If the staff are not welcoming, Kathryn would not have come to meet them. What does Kathryn expect from the staff in her overnight stay?

There were feces in the toilet when we arrived that had worms growing in it. A flush solved this. Darkuman is an inconvenient location. I had negotiated with the taxi driver from the airport that I would pay him 15 or 20 for the ride depending on what the hotel owner said was fair. She insisted that I pay 25. This was unacceptable. She failed in both fairness and failed to stand up for her customer This was our lowest quality, worst value for money accommodation in two weeks travelling in Ghana.

This is a couple who are angry with themselves and with the whole world. As they have stated, they began arguing and quarreling with the driver even before they got to the hostel. The Accra Airport Cabby Drivers charge approved rates and the approved rate from the airport to town is Gh¢25.00. This can be verified. What crime have we committed by confirming that the approved taxi fare from the airport to town is Gh¢25.00? How can we say Gh¢15.00 is fair when we know that Gh¢15.00 comes nowhere near the approved rate of Gh¢25.00 They never complained to us about the condition of our toilets and if they believe in the comments they have made and they are sincere about the comments, then we leave them to their conscience and to their God if they have one.

A very safe hostel in an interesting location. "Uncle" is very helpful. Good enough for us to book three more nights at the end of our visit.

The owners dogs bark constantly during the night keeping the guest awake.

Owner Comment (Show)
The dogs bark after 11.00p.m. when guests return from their outing after that hour. Otherwise, the dogs are quiet and friendly.

I only stayed there a few hours (middle of the night till next morning). As far as I can tell, the hostel is really good overall. Staff was very friendly, there is a nice compound w/ table tennis, mini-kitchens to cook your own meals... The atmosphere was very relaxing and quiet, the rooms clean and reasonably priced. The only disadvantage might be the location, because it is in Darkuman, which is not directly in the city. But you can get a trotro to the circle in 20-30 minutes.
