Really small and comfortable hostel. Very helpful and friendly staff. Easy walking location to monuments, museums, train, grocery stores and resturants.

The hostel was extremely neat and clean. I liked that the rule was to leave shoes at the door -- helped with the cleanliness. The staff were very friendly and helpful, common areas were inviting and comfortable. Drawbacks -- no shades on window and street lights shown in -- the staff did help to fix this when we asked. Our room was next to the bathroom and the hand dryer was very noisy when used during the night. There was a strong garbage type smell in the mornings downstairs.

I felt comfortable in this hostel, it was clean and has good facilities. Not a lot of locker space.

We were welcomed nicely and explained every thing in details. I like the idea of leaving our shoes downstairs! We arrived by bus and the hostel is not far from the bus terminal

Overall my experience there was pretty good. My only issue was that the hostel needs alot of work. I am talking about the house. Both the staff and guess was pretty nice. I really enjoyed my stay.

Very close to the Mt. Vernon Convention Centre Metro station which means that if you're in DC for a conference it's very close from the convention area. The stores etc are right down the street which you could get a bus for or walk down (takes about 15-20 mins). Clean and tidy and has a good common area. 4 bed dorms are spacious and open. Bathrooms are minimal but good. Has a good kitchen for use and lots of board games to play. Internet connection is good as well.

I spent 3 nights at the DC hostel and find it quite good. The staff was very nice and helpfull. The room was clean and the bad was comfortable. The location is very good and in walking distance from almost all attractions of DC. Although, I think the ammount of showers is not enough for the ammount of people that stay in the hostel. Other then that, everything was fine.

The bathroom was quite bad I hope you consider it for your renovations. A broken flushing tank is not a good start and just cutting it off without any notice doesn't help either. The AC situation wasn't real good as well since the window had to be open and it got really cold in the room.

Everyone at DC Lofty was very friendly and I enjoyed my stay. However, there were a few things that could improve. There were no paper towels available in the kitchen, and the overall cleanliness in the eating area and bathrooms was a little less than I was comfortable with. The heat was on too high in the bedrooms, making it very stuffy, and our window was broken/could not be opened for fresh air.

The air quality in the rooms is bad and stuffy. Either they need to open up the windows or switch on the AC or heater, and humidifier.

I arrived after 10pm and couldn't check in!! They sent me an email to warn me in the afternoon of the same day, when I was in the plane. I had to find another place to stay for the first night, and of course, they charged that night. Horrible, I'll never come back.

Definitely Basic, but clean and safe. Exactly what I was looking for in a hostel. Check-in was a little slow but someone was there when I arrived and they were pleasant and informative. The bathroom on the 4-female bunk floor was quite nice with a big walk-in tiled shower. Exterior of hostel seems to have been recently updated. There is no ramp or elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage up the steps. Towel is provided by the hostel. Lockers are in the room and available for use.

Place was clean which was nice! - thought the kitchen could have been nicer. The hostel should really get maps so that when guests come they can give them some and not tell them to go to a bus to pick it up...

Best hostel in Washington DC. The beds are a little soft.

I had a very good stay--I was there for 4 nights, at a conference (I'm a grad student, no fancy hotels pour moi). But I love hostels regardless, and there were very friendly and cool people at DC Lofty. It has everything you need, and is in a good location. As a disability activist, I have to stay the place is not physically accessible at all. But, then again, not many old-fashioned houses in D.C. are. Overall, good stay, and thanks so much for the hospitality.
