Good location but lack of kitchen facility and not many bathrooms made it a little bit less enjoyable. If you want somewhere to just base yourself from in DC this is good, but if you're looking for somewhere to hang out try another place.

This hostel is one of the worst I have ever done. It has no official office and look like an unofficial structure. Moreover, it is not clean and that in the \"shower\" which is very bad and the beds also very bad. For this very hugh price, you should really go somewhere else, you will find better deal in Manhattan.

I stayed there for 2 nights and didn\'t have any problems with security and cleanliness. On my 2nd night the bed was allocated to someone else and I had to show all the receipts to get another bed (apparently the staff forgotten to check me in in the computer system). Also I was charged $25 extra after I left. But when I called them they told me it will be credited back to me, though i\'m still waiting for it. Other than that I did not face any problems and staff were nice and responsive.

People mostly kept to themselves. Comfortable except for others' belongings and toiletries being left out.

The DC Lofty is a nice place: great atmosphere and location. Comfortable, nice and quiet rooms. Rates are reasonable. The area is secure and if you are fit enough, everything is within walking distance. Negative points: staff... Slightly disorganized guy and a very unfriendly bossy lady. Also, the kitchen did not exist, there were two fridges (bad smell), a microwave and a water boiler, but no stove. Garbage could be smelt all over the kitchen. Parking is to be paid extra.

Thank you for your comments. We are glad that you liked our rooms. Sorry for a little disorganization during our transition: our kitchen remodeling going slower that we expected, but will be done soon, so we need to make the best of what we have right now: two clean fridges (recently cleaned! :) and a microwave with coffee-maker. -DC Lofty staff

Great environment, everyone is very helpful. Missing the kitchen (which is almost finished) and some rooms are also being remodeled. The ones that are finished already have very good quality. It is already a pretty good hostel and it is going to become a great one.

DC Lofty is in a great location, and the staff there was very welcoming. I stayed in the single room with an bathroom in what I think they call the 'young professional' room. It was a great setup and left me well rested for a presentation I had to give at the convention center. Many thanks for the good stay.

Nice people stayed there, and the staff was friendly, however, the conditions need to improve dramatically. The kitchen was being installed, ok fine. But non-functioning outlets, lights hanging by wires and not working are a fire hazard and need to be corrected immediately. It seems to be in a continual state of "repair". Those I spoke with said it was this way a year ago. Also, most disturbing is when I told a staff member the basement smelled of urine, he denied it and did nothing. Really?!

Owner Comment (Show)
hey there, thank you for a positive overall review. We do advertise that we don't have a kitchen, as it is a work in progress. However, We don't have any lights hanging by the wires, and construction has been finished for the entire hostel.... A year ago the hostel was not even here.... maybe thinking of another place. And, surely if something smelled of urine, our cleaning staff would be on top of it, thanks

Very helpful staff, easy walk to downtown n easy to get to hostel. Only one not so good thing was the lack of a place to prep or cook, unless using microwave only.

The hostel needs to provide hand soap for use at the basins after the toilet because I'd be very surprised if people were going to find their soap, going to the bathroom, then returning their soap each time they went to the toilet. It's unhygeic and all I could think about every time I went to brush my teeth. Also it's misleading to advertise the hostel as "newly renovated" when in truth half of one bathroom has been renovated. On the upside, rooms were clean and the staff and location good.

As many other have said the kitchen aint done yet, so the only things available was a toaster, micro, water boiler and a coffe machine. No stove, no plates, no bowls, no glasses or similar and only plastic knives/forks/spoons a couple of the days we stayed. That being said, the rooms were clean, and the location is only 20 minutes walking from the mall. It will probably be very nice once they are finished with the renovations(although it seems they can be finished anywhere from 1 to 6 months)

I ended up not even staying at this property and moving to a hotel. There were piles of cut carpet and tile wverywhere, there was very little room, some of the updates were obviously done cutting corners. The area was not good and I was actually accosted by a man a block away (not a guest). I would actually like a full refund as I never stayed.

Very friendly place, good atmosphere, 20 min walking to National Mall. But the great part is the 5 blocks distance to Convention Center subway, where you can ride a bike (30 first min for free) and return it close to National Mall. It's around 7 min distance riding.

My friend and I stayed in the hostel for two nights. First of all, its location is fantastic. You don´t have to walk for hours to be downtown, or at the next Merto station. -> FANTASTIC We meet a lot of nice and friendly people from all over the place over there. :) The house rules were not that strict, so nearly everybody followed them. We had a good sleep in those IKEA- beds. ) I have to critizice the cleanliness. The bathrooms were dirty (one of them did not have a lock!).
