The receptionist and staff were lovely, as were most of my fellow guests. What reduces the score for me was the cleanliness of my private room, where I found a half drunk cup of tea under one bed, and dirty sheets on the other. The kitchen facilities were excellent, there were free computers in the lobby and I would recommend this as a great budget stay in a dorm, but would probably get a hotel rather than a single room.

I had a great welcome to the Dakota, checked in efficiently and shown where everything was. Jennifer helped me get orientated the flowing day and was utterly wonderful. The two guy's that checked me out and tried to organise the bus shuttle were rude, verging on unhelpful after I'd paid which really let down the experience. Other than that it was a nice enough hostel, good breakfast well situated to see San Francisco. Just a shame that the service wasn't carried all the way through.

The hostel has good location but the personel is very mean specially the Night Guy Called Lorenzo. I had to ask everything the basics and the answer very bad when in other hostels the hostess make you feel elector and you dont news to ask anything because he or she explain all nicelly.

Excelente localizacao. Quartos e banheiros limpos. Bom cafe da manha com paes, geleias, cafe, suco, frutas. So nao gostei de ter reservado um hotel e ter sido deslocada para outro. Otimo custo-beneficio.

We booked the Dakota but on arrival were moved to the Fitzgerald 2 doors down. The Fitzgerald didn't have a kitchen but we were allowed to use the facilities at the Dakota. The included breakfast was great.

Worst hostel I've stayed at. Our room had 10 ppl with only 6 tiny lockers. Had to climb over suitcases to get into bed. A guy in his 40s was kicked out twice for not paying but still ended up in our room at night as door was NEVER locked. Staff made recommendations based on their commission and told us "You can book that yourself. I'm busy atm" when they had no way of earning one No TV, luggage storage or laundry despite claiming that they do. This is only available if you walk to the Adelaide.

Location is good and this is pretty cheap dorm bed in the same location. The breakfast is very good too. I shall stay here again when I visit SF.

I signed up for a single room at the Dakota but they reassigned me to the hotel next door, the Fitzgerald. It was a nice hotel, very comfortable bed and very clean. Great location too, just 2 blocks from the main square. Definitely worth it.

+ free breakfast (bread, bagles, english muffins, jelly, peanut butter,NUTELLA,coffee, orange juice) + location (only few minutes walking from Union Square and the BART station) + very clean toilets and baths + the kitchen is very nice - my bed was not stable at all and it made loud soinds when I moved. That was kind of annoying for me and all the others in the room - if you want to party and meet a lot of people, this hostel is not the right place. It's more like a hotel

Good kitchen, friendly staff, nice clean rooms and bathrooms, and an awesome elevator. Not the most lively social atmosphere though.

The place had a nice classic look to it. Good location if your looking to be social, not for a quiet night. There was bar and street noise throughout the night, but not to an extreme. Guests were all very friendly. My only complaint was the bed. I ended up on a bad one the first night and the front desk attendant seemed legitimately concerned. So that makes me feel that he will address it & that he would have helped w/ any other concerns. But we all felt the beds were extremely firm.

Loved my stay at the Dakota in San Fran. Very characterful old building, the lift especially! Good breakfast and the staff was great. Booked a wine tour at reception that was amazing, and could get everywhere in the city I wanted to go really easily. There are great bars and music venues within blocks which makes an easy walk back afterwards.

very helpful and friendly staff! pretty quiet and a little anonymous if you are a single traveler and want to meet people, but the hostel also offers bar crawls and cheese and wine nights (together with the adelaide hostel) which I did not take advantage of. small, but cozy and clean rooms with ensuite bathroom. breakfast consists of bagels, english muffins or toast with a choice of 7 different spreads! :)
