Nice Hostel, cosy and clean. the staff is friendly but youll need to speak a bit of chinese to be understood. When I went there most of the people there were chinese anyway. need to walk 15minutes to get to the bus to city center. Nice place overall.
Located in a terrible place that no local seemed to know. Terrible facilities and no warm welcome. One staff member here who slept most of the day or played on his phone. Also absolutely no English so if you cannot speak at least intermediate Mandarin you'll have problems. The guy couldn't even read my passport. Look elsewhere.
Dalian accommodation seems to be expensive in general during summer, apart from that great place. The double room near the showers is huge and comes with private alcove. Nice.
This hostel does charges extra money if you want to use the air conditioner. When I was in Dalian the weather was steaming hot and the air conditioner was necessary. I've never been to a hotel that charges for air conditioner use before. This seemed a really unfair and stingy policy. The staff explained that "in Dalian it's cool at night so the air conditioner isn't necessary". Well, it's not cool in a dorm room with 6 guys. It's incredibly hot and stuffy. Same goes for the common area.
Tricky to find (also for taxi drivers), a dog in the common room (not my feature of choice) and kind of dodgy bathrooms (with hot showers, however). Aside from that I had a nice and relaxing start of my holidays here. Note that they close the door from 00.00-06.00 or something, don't know how that would work if you come to party, which you should, in Dalian. Staff are friendly and provide bus info, city maps and umbrellas.
The hostel is a bit difficult to find as it is located uphill. The toilets are quite small and there are not enough toilets/bathrooms. In general the hostel is not very big as it only occupies two levels. However the atmosphere of the common room is really great as the balcony faces the roads with comfy sofas/chairs. The staff were helpful too. But one drawback is it is a bit hot during the evening before night. However there is no air-con or fan. A 10-15 min walk is necessary for taking buses.
