Old wooden building with a lot of character. Serene location and spectacular views - even from the dormitories. Awesome lounge. However, the bathrooms aren't awesome (poorly lit and not very well ventilated.) Remember that it's a fairly strenuous 45 minute hike up from the Dazhai parking lot, so don't bring too much luggage. I'd definitely recommend this place.
Even the hostel is called Dazhai it is not on the village of Dazhai, it is 40 km away by foot. The staff was nice and the views are amazing. The hostel is very cozy, all made of wood.
Great location, very good vibe. Staff's English isn't that good though. Would stay again.
Incredible location in the middle of the rice terraces! Staff are friendly and helpful. Their eggplant dinner dish is great and they help you book a bus back to Guilin. To get to the hostel, call the hostel and ask them to book a seat for you on a bus (actually a van, not a big bus) from the Hong Kong hotel. The Hong Kong hotel staff will not know anything about this bus. Follow the hostel's directions and book a seat with them ahead of time. Two nights here is perfect for the rice terraces.
Great location which is really the reason you go to the terraces. The hostel also has good food and advice about walking routes to get the most out of your time on the terraces. Rooms are decent, the bathrooms are very basic.
Great hostel! One of the best! We Stayed for one night and had a great time! The hostel is located directly on the Rice terrasses, therefore when you made it up there it's totally worth it (40 minutes climbing the hills). Perfect view! The Staff Speaks english and is always willing and able to help. Resonable Food prices and cozy common room with lots of Sofas. The rooms are super clean but a bit old Fashion including Chinese toilets but if you ok with that it's real nice. Beds are comfortable
Fantastic location, friendly and helpful staff (detailed photo books with suggested hiking routes are very helpful), really nice atmosphere

The hostel was very good. The location is great, even if it's fairly high up. The main advantage with that though is that you don't have to start ur hike in Dazhai, but u can start from Tiantou, which is helpful because you can go deeper into the reserve. The only "bad" thing, and I am nibpicking right now, is that the bathroom was not perfect and the washbasin was nearly falling off the wall. Apart from that, and some really scary tropical visitors in the lobby (which r everywhere) it's great.
I stayed one year ago in the same village in the other yha. The other hostel was better in the following two points: - the turned on the generator so we had last year two hours electricity. Dragons den refused to use it. - last year the hostel organized a guide to lead the way to pingan, dragons dens staff didn't even try. Everthing else was pretty much the same
We had a lovely stay at the Dragon's Den. The staff was very helpful and spoke very good English. The common places were very cosy and they even bring in dishes from the restaurant next door if you feel like staying in, at no extra cost. I definitely recommend a stay at the Dragon's Den, incredibly better than just a day trip from Guilin.
This is a very lovely hostel in a really cool location. The staff were very helpful and the food was great and reasonably priced. The rooms were very basic but clean, and though the bathroom was rudimentary it did the job and had hot showers. Definitely worth a visit, but use the picture map they provide to get there...

Wonderful staff, great outdoor seating, good food. Wonderful stay here, will stay again as soon as possible.
The hostel is right on top of Dazhai and is surrounded by amazing rice fields. It's quite a trek up but it's so worth it. The building is wooden so creaks a lot when people are walking about. It took about five minutes for the water to heat up, and a lot of the time it wasn't even warm. My dorm had a squat toilet but I saw some that had Western toilets - ask for one with Western toilets.
Amazing location, a 40 minute hike up from Dazhai (and the main tourist groups, happily) with stunning views over the rice terraces. Simple but fine rooms in a traditional wooden building. Great food. Helpful staff. The hikes in the surrounding area are breathtaking. The hostel organises it's own bus to from Guilin twice a day, which is super useful. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer!
Excellent location within the rice terraces. Nice view. Helpful staff.
Pros: very charming. Joey and the staff were helpful. Nice common area overlooking beautiful terraces. Cons: food isn't very cheap or frequently available. Mosquitos in room at night. It's a long trek to the hostel. I ended up staying here for two nights, hiking to Ping'an on day 2 to take the bus back to Tiantouzhai for my departure the next morning.
A truly magical experience staying here in the rice terraces.
