This place would / could be really nice if they made sure to keep it clean. The bathrooms were really dirty and they did not keep up on cleaning them. Rooms were dirty I got there, they made the bed but did not change out the sheets, we had to ask from them to re-clean our room. For how much you pay for a bed here they should not charge for a towel. Towels are 50 baht plus 150 deposit. I know its not a lot but for the price you are paying vs other places in the area this should be included.
De Vieng Hostel is great value for money, The facilities were great and the beds were superb. It's also in a great location in the middle of Chaing Mai.
I can't say enough good things about the staff at De Vieng. Duke at the front desk and the owner went out of their way to make my stay there special.
The hostel was very nice and modern. It was about a 30 minute walk to the night market but very close to one of the main roads with lots to of places to see or go eat. The lockers in the room large and I felt like my things were safe.
very good Location right next to a nice Temple. Easy to find, good security System and very nice Rooms incl. Beds. The Lobby is the only bad Thing. It's not that good for Meeting other travelers.

New and super clean hostel that opened in early 2014. 8 bed dorm was very spacious and they have a policy of minimizing bunk beds (e.g. a majority of beds that are not bunks). If Green Tiger Vegetarian House is not available, would definitely recommend to stay here.
This hostel has no soul. It's a beautiful hostel though, great rooms and very clean and secure. But its like staying in a hotel that happens to have dorms. No common room, no meeting other guests, no interaction with others. So if you want to stay at a hotel but want it cheap go here. If you want a hostel feeling go elsewhere. Also they charged me to use the phone (15bht) and the pool(200bht). I was not happy with this hostel.
Super clean bathrooms and really comfy beds. Not far from many temples but not the closest to all the action. If you want a super clean and secure hostel it's really good.
Great discovery in the Old City in Chiang Mai. Centrally located, huge comfy beds and cold AC, very affordable for a 4-bed dorm. Seems brand new - very tastefully decorated, great lobby, super clean bathrooms, and has laundry machines. Believe they have a sister hostel in Bangkok which I will check out as this was so nice! Only downside was they charged a bit for towels, which given how nice the rest of the place is you'd expect would be included/should just charge a bit more up front.
This place was amazing. Really good beds, every bed comes with nightlight and plugs for charging. Lockers and good internett. Very clean, nice bathrooms! The standard is better that most hotels i've been to. Washing maskine and dryer. Dryer a bit expensive, but i just hangmy clothes to dry in the room!
Excellent Hostel, very clean and very good facilities. A little bit more expensive but worth it if you have the cash. It's a little further away from the east wall which was one of my favourite parts of Chiag Mai but there are plenty of things to do around there. Great Wifi and breakfast is included. More chilled out than other hostels. Probably not for people who want to party.
Have travelled SE asia for three months and this was the best hostel I stayed in. Its amenities are like a very nice hotel but it has the social energy of a hostel. Highly recommended.
Super clean, everything new, bit pricey, very good location. However the staff knows nothing about running hostel. Maybe it's just because the place is new (as for April 2014). For ALL my questions (regarding transporation to bus terminal, ongoing holiday, post office, etc) I was given only one answer "I don't know". This is not what I'd expect from the hostel staff. Especially if it's twice more expensive than other places.
