Booked an air con room as stated on the internet - turned up to find it was fan only (not to mention dirty and noisy). Expensive too. When I explained to reception it was pretty much 'mai pen rai'. The other dorm we booked was better, but the bathroom was still dirty with a big pool of stagnant water on the floor, and used paper towels in the sink. Its in the old town but a long walk (tuk tuk it) from the bars, markets and sights.

What a great place! It's got a great atmosphere. Nice rooms and cheap prices. The outside garden is a great place to hang out. Pool table is fun and the food is great. The staff are really helpful and fun to talk to. The luggage room is a great place to store stuff if you head out on any overnight trips. It's a bit far away from the main area at Thaepae Gate but that could also be considered a good thing. Stay here!

Be prepared to be bitten by mosquitoes, esp around the computer area. Within three minutes, I had ten new bites. Other than the mosquitoes, the hostel was alright overall. It's a good location within the old city. The staff are friendly enough but not the most helpful. I would stay here again just for the ridiculously cheap price.

Excellent hostel, staff and fellow travelers were all very friendly and the beer was cheap. Rob went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed the area and took us out for an amazing tour of the local mountains, temples and a tribal village. I initially booked in for a couple of nights and ended up staying a week and I'll go back for more if I can find the time.

The staff at Deejai went out of their way to customize some trips I wanted to do. They'll help you get what you're looking for whether it's a relaxed holiday, nights of drunken haze, or an adventure away from tourist spots in the mountain jungle. Have a chat with Robert. He's an interesting guy with incredible stories. Take a nap in the hammock on a hot afternoon with a very well-priced beer. I extended my stay - twice. If you're in Chiang Mai, spend some time here. You won't regret it.

Rob, the "boss", is very cool and protected. He takes care about customers. Very safety place, nice town, nice people, good backpacker's home, clean and not expensive (really not !!). A good place to meet people and to eat good thaï food (not expensive... again, and perfect)

- although we asked for cleaning-service the first time our dorm was cleaned was after six days; earlier the cleaning service just emptied the bin in the bathroom without putting a new plastic bag in the bin; the comment from the reception: 'what do you expect? do you think my room was cleaned?' - i don't care about an employees room, i pay for it so i expect even on songkran cleaning service and maybe a little bit more comprehension if you ask for it.

No air con dorms are super stuffy with mediocre fans - AC is worth it. No lockers but dorms have keys. really particular about knowing exactly how many days you are staying or they give away your bed so you have to plan ahead (not my forte) - we had to switch rooms three times in a one week stay. Nice atmosphere in the backyard lounge/bar atmosphere. A fair bit of a walk to the bar scene at night.

My stay at Deejai backpacker was fantastic! I was there during the Songkran festival and doing the drive-by in the truck organised by them was such good fun. The staff was really friendly and the three bed dorm I stayed in was good as well. Everybody should visit the rooftop of the hostel. It is gorgeous!

Cheap and a great atmosphere for young travelers. Plus, the breakfast is quite cheap compared to most hostels in Chiang Mai.

Nice place, but far from the action. Had to rent a bike just to get from the hostel to sights around the town. The bar was a nice place to meet people, but I felt a little like I had no other choices, being so far from the central tourist hub. On the other hand, it was quiet at night, the staff was great, and the vibe of the place was chill. Great place if you are looking for a quiet time and meeting other travelers. Not so great if you want to be part of the nightlife of Chiang Mai.

the room was filthy when i arrived- trash overflowing and the sheets were dirty as well as the bathroom. the windows were basically undone~ anyone can open them. in fact, one of the girls in my room (3 bed female dorm) broke in through the window when she forgot her key. the power went out for the night when it rained. basically, i locked up everything but my clothes in the few lockers downstairs. even then, i didn't feel my stuff was safe. staff were there to make money off booking tours.
