The absolute best hostel we stayed in while our trip in Thailand! Cozy common area where everybody who likes to hangs out, free wifi and PCs to use. There is even a kitchen which serves good food - this makes it sometimes hard to even leave the hostel although it's located very conveniently central in Chiang Mai. Bathroom per room, pretty cool. And staff is even greater - Adam and Rob are welcoming you warmly and are always open for a chat, pool or other fun. Absolute recommendation.

Had a brilliant stay here!! Traveling alone for the first time, I wanted somewhere social and easy going - Deejai Backpacker was an exceptionally good choice, and excellent value for money. The communal garden area was lush, and the staff were great too. A little far out from some things but very close to others - an overall win I think. I also found people to be respectful of sleeping hours and had no trouble myself when I wanted an early night. In Chiang Mai, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

A really cool place to be, the most social hostel I have stayed in so far! Everyone chills out in the lobby or in the garden (has a bamboo treehouse) and the atmosphere makes it really easy to meet people, great for me as a lone traveller! Very good value for money, most of the staff were pretty chill but not sure about the main guy. Good location too, can easily walk to the main markets.

great place to meet other young travelers. Everything you want to see and do can be organized by the nice staff at front desk. Room cleanliness was "ok". If you prefer a quieter room, avoid one above the backyard where there is music, bar and pool table.

Nice hostel with excellent staff. The owner is British and he knows a lot about the area and what you can do there. The hostel is quite big so you will meet a lot of travellers there. I was glad I had a room with a/c as it was really hot there in March. Only negative aspect: they don’t give you toilet paper, you need to bring by yourself.

Without a shadow of a doubt the best hostel I have ever stayed in. The atmosphere is fantastic if you want a sociable, party atmosphere and the owner (Rob) is great. Staff are extremely accommodating and helpful, and the value for money is second to none. Am definitely going back!

I had such a great time here. The atmosphere was so cool and the staff was great. I would recommend for anyone, especially If you're travelling solo. Great place to meet people and the staff was great to help you find things I do. I wish they places like this all over Thailand.

Everything felt comfortable. Lots of other travelers to talk to or you can get some peace in the garden in a hammock. The rooms were nothing to brag about, but you shouldn't be in the room anyway. Decent place for the cost.

Had an absolutely amazing time at Deejai! Met so many amazing people, backpackers and staff alike. Great food, nice dorms, plenty of Changs and Annie the puppy! Had a blast playing DJ in the Jungle Chicken (bar!) and shooting pool. Chiang Mai has something about it, can't quite put my finger on it, that makes you not want to leave. Well done to Rob, Adam and all the staff at Deejai for making it my favourite part of my trip and a great way to end a great holiday! I'll be back for sure!

Deejai is, by far, my favourite hostel. It's clean, has hot water, good wifi, small dormitories (most a 3 beds to a room), has a great bar area, pool table, fire pit for bon fires, has an extensive range of tours. Rob is your man if you need anything done; he'll sort you out for basically anything you need. Strongly recommended.

Friendly laid back place. Won't let you take your own drinks/food but they have the same reasonably provided there. Can hire motorbikes straight from the hostel which was handy. The rooms aren't clean but great value for money in a handy location. 4 bed dorms are mostly 3 beds.

No mosquito net/window screen, cockroach crawling on the floor, shared bathroom on ground floor pretty disgusting. Friend found a few bed bugs. Does not provide sheets/towels. Staff friendly but not super helpful. Will not stay there again if going back to Chiang Mai

Owner Comment (Show)
Firstly thank you for staying with Deejai in one of our budget rooms on the second floor. We are sorry you saw a cockroach but I'm sure as you know Chiang Mai is in the tropics and life abounds, a staggering 70,000 insect species have been collected in the country with only about 10% so far identified. The good news is of the 325 reptile species found in Thailand 36.6% are made up of gecko, lizard and skink groups, many of which will happily eat cockroaches. Just another quicky, Thailand is home to over 970 bird species and is believed to have more plant species than are found in the whole of Europe. We do provide sheets, they were on your bed when you checked in, towels are available at reception While the common toilet on the ground floor sees heavy use, every room has it's own which is cleaned each time the rooms are made up or on request. Windows do not have screens, but can be closed to prevent mosquitos from entering. We have checked the beds in the room you stayed in and couldn't find bed bugs. We take bed bugs seriously and use the same method employed in many hospitals to control them. Beg bugs do, however, travel from hostel to hostel, and so can't be 100% avoided. Thanks again for staying at Deejai in the amazingly biodiverse Thailand.
