Decked out in Indian/Persian/Sri Lankan decor, the hostel provides a spacious lounge, a cozy dining room with board games and guitars, and a large, well-furnished kitchen. The setup invites social interaction, and the staff is very helpful with recommendations for the nightlife in Derry. The unisex bathrooms aren't the most private and slightly awkward, while the smallish bedrooms don't afford much movement aside from sleep. But its sheer value and fun cannot be beat for exploring Derry.

Great hostel, lovely host. Only problem was a couple other totally disrespectful travellers. As well, the cleanliness wasn't as good the longer we were there. But I would highly recommend!

Great hostel, excellent location. The owner was very friendly and helpful. I really liked that I got a quick intro from him about what to do in the town, where to eat etc. Also, there is a good wifi signal in the rooms as well (first time this happened to me in IRL..). The space in common rooms is a bit limited, but overall really good hostel - would stay again! Btw when booking it shows that debit cards are not accepted, but they actually accept them...

Almost perfect. Some taps and shelves should be renewed. Anyway, it's fairly worth staying for a couple of days.

Very cosy hostel that has a real 'homy' feel to it. It is run by a kiwi girl called Kylie who is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Rooms were big and clean, linnen was clean and the hostel was located close to all the sights and nightlife. Not that Derry is that big, but it was still a good central location. Had a good time there, and Kylie was nice enough to tell me that I had already paid for my bed the previous evening, something I had no recollection of :)

The stay at the Derry Independent hostel was the best hostel-experience I ever had! It's a shame that we could stay for one night only as the owners were just amazing and the atmosphere in the hostel was warm and personal... like a second home! The facilities are really good: free internet, living room with couches, big, new kitchen, clean and nice bathrooms, etc I recommend this place to everyone who prefers little, personal, lovely hostels to big, crowded and commercial places...

This hostel had a lovely feel, it was more like staying in a home than a hostel. The owners were extremely helpful and gave us lots of ideas for things to see and do in Derry (i wished we were able to stay longer).

I've stayed at quite a few hostels and this one has more character and charm than any other I've been to by a wide margin. I would highly recommend staying here.

Only positive things can be said for this hostel. Fantastic staff, in particular manager Kylie- friendly, welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a cup of tea, a map of Derry and a big smile upon arrival. Everything from the bathrooms to the dorms to the hostel itself were clean and tidy. A free breakfast comprising of Freshly baked bread each morning and numerous cereals to pick from are just an added bonus to this hostel. Best hostel we have stayed at so far.

Very welcoming and friendly hosts, the room was clean, so was the shower and kitchen (love the homemade bread for breakfast!). It was easy to find and the location was good. There's not a whole lot to see in Derry, but it was easy to walk around the town from this location. Great hostel, I would definitely recommend it!
