A nice enough stay, but there are no lockers in the dorms, so security could be improved. It's close enough to the bars and pubs if that's what you like, but far enough away that you're not disturbed too much. That said, Darwin is a party town for backpackers so you will be woken by a drunk dorm mate at some point most nights... Only other negative is that the toilets back onto the dining area, so you can hear everyone having their morning constitutional while eating your breakfast. Not nice!
The breakfast is outstanding - a huge variety of foods with lots of healthy choices. Bed was comfortable and the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Had a good and quiet stay. Just a bit outside the really busy area of Mitchell Street, small and friendly hostel!
Very good staff, that helped and organised everything you needed.
The bathsrooms should be cleaned more than once a day. Also checked for enough toilet paper and paper towels.
I had a great time here. The rooms were cleaned daily, the staff friendly and knowledgeable about the area. It was nice to chill out by the pool and the outdoor kitchen haseverything you need. The atmosphere is great with people from all over the world meeting and chatting. I definitely felt safe and it's only a short walk to everything. I would definitely stay here again.
We spent only one night and it was good, except for my bed that was right under the aircon, so it was very noisy! The breakfast is very rich, the best one I've ever seen in a hostel! The location is good, just 5 minutes walk from the city center. The kitchen is big and there's a nice pool. The only bad thing are the bathroom, they are outside and from my room (also because of a broken door) it was a long way to get there, especially during the night.
Great breakfast with toast, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, english muffins and baked goods. Clean facilities in general but it depends on the roommates.
excellent hostel located downtown. however, as its a youth-hostel, it can be noisy in the evening sometime. check it out :-)
Great location on the main street but not ontop of the nightlife. Good breakie for a hostel! I kept getting told it was the best hostel in Darwin. Have to pay to hire a blanket though- some ppl like the aircon too cold.
This was rated second best when We booked, I think it is better than wht was rated the best. If you want to party and still escape the chaos of Mitchell street. Dingo is the place to stay!
Great place to stay: Its centrally located but still quite during night time, breakfast is really good; cleaning good; atmosphere great meaning great place to meet new people that are not all about partying and getting drunk all the time; very helpful and friendly staff; they should have better security, although I personally never experienced anything suspicious at all, such as lockers; showers good; price is good. I can only recommend this hostel!
Stayed in a private 3 bed prior to taking a tour of the Northern Territory. The residence is set round a pool, which provided a pleasant setting. The room was okay containing a double bed with a single bunk above which, was slightly random. Breakfast was good, but disappointing that you couldn't take it earlier than 7am especially when you bear in mind many tours pick up at 6-6:30. Overall a decent place to stay for budget travellers.
First of all there's no free wi-fi.I know none of the hostels offers it but it sucks because many hostels in other cities do it.Then it was really not easy to ask if we could leave one bag each in the luggage store room for 3 days we were going to Kakadu Park.We were sent to the transit centre that was already closed, then we were still told it was not posible and the luggage store room was full.FINALLY after several hours!we were allowed to store it in the empty!store room. What was the big deal?
Like most hostels in darwin, the building seems old. Room was basic. Has a fridge and aircon. Bed mattress extremely soft - lack of support. Room smelled damp Good breakfast and a free bottle of water in the room on arrival.

Staff very nice and generally helpful. Location is on the main st, but opposite another hostel (YHA) and VERY noisy at night. If you want any sleep, try a hostel off the main rd... everything is walking distance. No lockers in the rooms, and rooms quite small with only a foam mattress. It's fine for a night or two, but I found it less than ideal.
I stayed in Dingo Moon Hostel 5 years ago to the weekend (V8 cars were racing then, too). I wanted to stay at the hostel opposite the one I stayed in, but couldn't remember if that was Dingo or YHA. I made the wrong choice & returned to Dingo by mistake. In the 5 years, it does not appear anything has been done to maintain the dodgy toilets/showers. Music was supposed to be turned down by 11pm, but nearly 1pm before it got quiet. Bad mattress/pillow. $40 key deposit excessive. Very average.
I really appreciate the help from the staff at Dingo Moon for arranging my tour, accommodation and public transportation.
