It's the type of hostel that is only run for profit: the staff is unfriendly and rarely present, the internet was not working for a whole day and no one even tried to fix it, and they charged me 15$ extra because of 'late arrival' (5'), although there are no arrival times mentioned on Hostelworld.com. However, the house is decent and the hostel is close to Adams Morgan and the Dupond Circle neighbourhoods. Cleanliness and security (no lockers!) were ok.

I really enjoyed my stay in this hostel. The main house looks great, with lots of places to relax. My favorite was the kitchen, where people shared food and watched tv or talked. This made a bit of noise in the adjacent dorm, but nothing too disturbing. Manager Jonathan and assistant Gene were great, giving the hostel a unique vibe and liveliness. I loved the intercultural yet all American (and safe!) neighborhood the hostel is located in. With the bus it was easy and cheap to get to the center.

If you book this hostel on this site. Make sure you are not another victim of this "over booked" situation. There are tons of people over booked this hostel the same day I got there, which left us no place to stay. Very poor management. On the other hand, it seems to be a nice place. It's just disappointing and really frustrating.

We have sent them an email beforehand informing that we would arrive at late night. They did not give us a reply. Upon arrival, the owner was very rude and blamed us for disturbing the other residents. We have reserved a 6-bed room, but they only offered us a living area with 6 inflatable mattresses. Even worse, the living room did not have any security locks, that means everyone could enter our room freely. Moreover, they did not allow us to go to the bathroom until the next morning.

Well, I booked with 4907 Diplomatic Stay, and that house is amazing, and would get better reviews, but they were overbooked, or something, and I was shifted to 4909 which is the house next door, and it was just plain ok. It wasn't the experience I was looking for, but I guess it wasn't all bad. If you do plan to book here, make sure you stay at 4907, and you'll be very pleased.

1, the location sucks, there is no subway nearby, you have to either get a cab or take a bus to go anywhere.2, they let the people over book the rooms, which means you think you booked a room, but you might ended up sleeping in the common area on an air mattress.3, the staff sucks, the guy runs around with an ipad is no good for running business. I didn't get the key to lock room, wifi password, blanket, code for front door. he did remember to charge us though. btw they gave us the wrong room.

I previously reserved this hostel way before and paid the deposit. Then just two days before my arrival, the staff told me that it is overbooked and do not have any beds or places to sleep!! Being forced to find another hotel shortly is super inconvenient, but they also said the refund will be processed in 3-5 days, which I still haven't had the money back after 3 weeks. Numerous emails have been sent and I got no reply from them, so as phone calls..... I am still waiting! SO INSECURE!!!!!!

(if you're trying to get to DC the city) Although it is a bit of a walk from the hostel to the metro, there's a bus and it's honestly not that bad of a walk. House is 150 years old but beautifully remodeled. Lots of open space, which is surprisingly pleasant. Kitchen downstairs and a few study rooms with super comfy couches. We had such a great stay, and very welcoming staff. Definitely coming back!

Awesome place, a great surprise, cosy rooms and great house. Just a thing if you have to walk from the closest metro station, get off at Columbia heights, it's easier, and walk straight on till the hostel (which has no sign on the building btw!)

Nothing around the hostel. like convenience store, cafe, supermarket... and need to take bus to the closest metro station [Columbia heights.] Hostel itself was really cute. But I stayed at the female 6 room, the door couldn't close and always it was opened slightly (so I could see some guys from my bed) and no key lock. Also In the room there was a bathroom but the door couldn't close too. Sometimes I couldn't use the hot water. During my stay, water leaking happened twice. old building i guess

My stay was fun. The staff and guests were nice. It's easy to go o places because it so close to bus stop and metro station. The neighborhood is nice.

Lovely place with beautiful furniture and a cozy environment. They lack organization though. They don't accept credit card, so I when I got there, at 10 PM I had to find an ATM or I couldn't stay there, even thought I was already booked.

This has to be the most elegant hostel I've ever visited! I felt underdressed in my sneakers and sweats checking in! The owner and manager personally greeted me and made me feel at home. The bedroom was truly lovely and my roomies very friendly. The free computer on the third floor was a plus. The only recommendation I have is to have a staff member do a sweep of the kitchen in the early am for dirty dishes. Otherwise a great hostel in a nice neighborhood with the bus right outside the house.
