Discovery hostel is definitely a great place to stay in Rio. I have done a lot of teaching and would view this the best hostel I've stayed at. The place is clean, staff is super friendly and helpful, breakfast is delicious and beds are comfortable. Lapa is great for going out and is close by (walking distance). The metro is right out the door to take you around Rio to ipanema, Copacabana, ect.

By far, one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at!

hope you can prepare enough hair dryers. Would like to see different breakfast everyday (you can prepare 7 different sets for a week, and repeat it every week.) I would suggest you can put a small cabinet in the female dorm bathroom, or at least a small table, so we can put our toiletries there without getting wet. I quite like you guys control the noise after midnight, and Capirinha is really nice.

Best hostel I've ever stayed in!!! Clean, friendly, and comfortable. Definitely recommend!

Really nice hostel! Staff was absolutely amazing, nice breakfast and comfortable beds. Bathrooms/toilets were a bit annoying (only one in upstairs and it's ALWAYS busy .. Also they were smelly sometimes, expecially that one in the downstairs with big trash can full of used toilet papers D: ) but nothing too bad, you can live with those things. The hostel is also very beautiful and nice to hang around. And once again, the staff was the best!! (Guys working there are also quite handsome ;))

One of the best-rated hostels in Rio. Gloria metro station is only half a block away, close to Lapa and its bar-infested strip; staff is extremely helpful and kind. Clean facilities, daily breakfast, and very safe. My negative review: slow WiFi. And I also wish they didnt allow smoking within the facilities. Kudos to Javier and Diego.

Beautiful property, very clean and renovated inside. A+ on everything except organizing nightly things to do for solo travelers. Not very lively on weekdays. Totally recommend the place!!

I booked the Women Only Room during June 2014 and it was excellent. The staff are very friendly and take the time to explain the city and sites to you upon arrival with a map. The room was clean and had two bunk beds stacked three high. They are sturdy and wood and each bed has a reading lamp and a HUGE locker. We had an ensuite bathroom and a balcony as well. Vibe around the place is very friendly, people gather in the courtyard at night. Also, computers and good breakfast to enjoy!

Hands down the best hostel I have stayed at (and there have been many). Great location next to a metro stop, clean beds, clean rooms, great breakfast and cheap beer!!!! But it's the staff and owner who really make the place special. Always helpful and friendly no matter how many times you ask them how to get to Christ the redeemer or sugar loaf mountain haha. Stay at this hostel it will make your stay in Rio fantastic

Fantastic staff. Very helpful and laidback bunch. Thanks Enrique, Zion, Nacho, Marta! Location is very walking distance to Lapa which is great. Bit far from other places like Copacabana and Ipanema. No safes to store valuables, but it felt safe to leave belongings in the room.

This is a great hostel. The guys who own the place are travellers themselves, and they know what backpackers are looking for. They have created a homely and social atmosphere, and it's only a small hostel which adds to the charm. Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Great access to Centro, bus station, other parts of the city. Good but not great access to swimmable beaches. Really great, welcoming atmosphere. One tiny drawback: the Internet is slow.

Great hostel with a good crowd of people some of whom left and came back. Staff are friendly, the location is good, and they let you bring your own drinks in. The breakfast only being served from 8.30 exactly is a bit annoying and they could do with another toilet/ shower. The 9 bed triple bunk room is next to the street so bring ear plugs

Very cozy environment especially to meet other travellers with superb staff (even went out with us on a few occasions). It's also very convenient to take the metro from there (100m at most) and a close walk to Lapa/Santa Teresa. The breakfast was also excellent (french toast, anyone?). All in all, an excellent hostel!

The hostel was awesome, one of the best free breakfasts available. Also the employees were super nice and helpful and the hostel atmosphere was really nice. It's also conveniently close to the metro station, beach and Lapa neighborhood. The place is a good mix of social hostel without being too crazy of a party place. I would definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a good place in Rio!
