great location, large hostel, rooms are spacious, free Wi-Fi, bar downstairs, staff is very friendly, and there are lots of activities so you can meet people. only downside is bathrooms and appears are quite a walk away depending on your room, but highly recommend Discovery.

The property was under construction so it was noise and dirty whole day whole night. Location actually not close to the center, have to take a tram to get there. The street quite empty at night. The hostel offers free breakfast from 7-9am so very few people can benefit from the breakfast as by the time they wake up, the bf table has been cleaned up, nothing left. If u come around 9:05am, they will take away the bf in front of u and talk to u in a very rude manner reminding u of their bf time.

rooms were pretty nice. I stayed in a few and had no real complaints during my stay. the kitchen was usually slammed with people and busy because half of the burners on the stoves didn't work properly so it slowed things down. but nice hostel and a pretty good location in the city.

Too big, too expensive for what it is, they don't allow outside alcohol which I didn't know before I booked, if I had I wouldn't have stayed there. I've stayed in much crummier hostels but they at least had personality & some fun people. Might be better for big groups but as a solo traveller, I was not a fan.

there's a drastic difference of your experience depending which floor you are stay on. I think/hope they are doing work on the more depressing floors

Discovery Melbourne is a great place to stay. It's large enough for everyone to have their own personal space, and the facilities are clean. Swanston Street is a great place to wander around, and the suburb of Fitzroy is a 10 minute walk away.

Great location. Basic accomodation. However, it was clean, amenable and good value for money. As a more 'mature' traveller I was very happy with the hostel and it ticked all the boxes.

Thx for the friendly & helpful staff, Sally! Some said it's filthy & noisy here, but i think it really depends on what sorta people staying in your dorm. The bathroom is ok for me. Free wifi at G/F is a bonus. Definitely will stay here longer next time!

The renovations at the lobby and the exterior of the hostel is nothing similar to that of the rooms. The rooms were poorly renovated and had minimum amenities. It was like a store room with beds added. It was cheap staying there though but I guess the renovation of the lobby left us with higher expectations of the room but it was not too pleasantly satisfied.

Room was very dusty, (that carpet hasn't been cleaned for years)a and the bed was unconfortable. Even if it's a budget Hotel, I don't think it would have costed too much to give the room a decent aspect as many other budget Hotels usually do. For sure the worst place I've ever slept in all my life. If you're looking for a double room I'm sure you can find something better for few dollars more.

When we came in at 3am in the morning all three cards we used to complete the payment failed. The staff was not very nice to us and acted as if it was our fault. In the end the ATM worked perfectly fine. There is a problem with your machines, not with us. I didn't like to be treated this way, especially not after a 24 hour travel. In general the hostel was fine, there were good facilities and the location was perfect.

After two months of backpacking this was the worst hostel we stayed in. We only stayed one night thankfully. You could smell the toilets from down the hall, so they obviously hadn't been cleaned in days. The showers were dirty so I didn't even use them. Our twin room felt like a prison cell. The vent didn't work and was covered in an inch of dust. We didn't sleep well because the other residents were very loud. The staff were really nice and helpful but this hostel is too dirty and unhygienic.
