My stay at Distant Relatives was a truly memorable and so relaxing experience! The concept is unique as it combines low eco footprint tourism with confort and service. Romain, Tom and their staff are such convivial hosts, they really want you to feel at home in Kenya and you DO. All amenities are clean, well appointed and nicely decorated. The meals are an absolute treat, both taste and company wise. I'll be back in this outstanding little paradise, for sure!

Amazing place, amazing experience Distant Relatives is very charming eco-backpackers. Beautiful location in a luxurious nature. Loved it. Close to the beach. Very warm and peaceful welcome (thanks to Tom and Romain and to the staff always very mindful to everyone) Amazing comfortable and exotic facilities with a wonderful pool behind the house. Food is also fantastic. We hope to get the chance to come back one day! Miss you all

What a wonderful place! The dorms were clean and safe, the common areas well decorated and fun to hang out in. The meals were well priced and delicious, and the staff were very friendly! I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to my friends and family! The guys recommended lots of great things to do from creek sailing trips, water sports with 3 degrees South, great restaurant ideas, and general beach and pool days. This is THE place to stay in Kilifi!

Distant Relatives was a wonderful place to call home for a short while on my travels. Warm, friendly staff; interesting characters; clean, comfortable and inviting. I will definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone.

I can’t remember a time when I have stayed somewhere so excellent and so affordable. The place is outstanding for its genuine approach to working alongside the community and landscape. During my stay, I drank beer by the baobab, swam the creek, studied the mangroves and smiled a lot! Thank you Distant Relatives, I’ll be back soon!

Absolutely stunning. One of those gems you come across on rare occasions when traveling. A place where flights are changed and plans remade, where having to leave is the only disappointment.

Distant Relatives is a totally unique place to stay. Nestled amongst maize fields and mud houses, this mzungu-mansion-cum-ecolodge espouses a fresh and inspiring approach to travel, community, the environment, and life in general. DR is a relief from the hustle and bustle of Mombasa, glitzy Malindi and the repetition of other, larger tourist destinations. Be prepared to feel at home here, to relax, to laugh, to learn, to eat WELL, to meet interesting people, and most of all, to long to go back.

This is a slice of paradise, perfect for relaxing or for as many sports as you could wish for.I overstayed by 3 times my original booking. It is only an hour by matatu or cab from Mombasa, but it could be on a different planet! Don't miss a dhow cruise up Kilifi Creek at sunset, so beautiful. In addition, the baobab by the pool must be thousands of years old, it is just wonderful, having your own beach is pretty cool and the guys who run the place are saints, nothing is too much trouble for them

The stay was a real pleasure. Great location with an amazing atmosphere. You can really make the most out of a small rural setting in beautiful coastal Kenya with authentic experiences as opposed to mass tourism. Can only wait to go back!

Fantastic week at Tom and Romains ecolodge,Super hosts/staff.Definitely the best part of my Kenyan adventure. Staying in the dorm with the ecobeds, great company and lovely outlook to garden, baobab tree, wandering chickens, guineapigs and ducks made my visit. Great things to do, hanging out by the pool under the stars, the bar with the best music, sailing the creek, snorkeling, fishing from the coral cliffs, walking local beaches, learning about local custom in the village. BEST FOOD ever.
