Enjoyed the place so much I already booked a spot for when I return in two weeks. Free wifi is tremendous value. Very relaxing place. Walk to center is maybe 10 minutes.

This place is amazing - it's like a hotel rather than a hostel. Nice to have a small number of beds in the dorms and NO bunks! Lovely bathrooms. Massive common room (and free pool table) well equipped kitchen. Lovely location in a quiet street near the botanic gardens. Staff were great with helpful tips for excursions. I really cannot fault this at all and would definitely recommend staying here if you're in Christchurch.

The best hostel I've stayed i so far. It is more like a shared home than an hostel. The only criticism is that the kitchn facilities may be a bit small if everyone wanted to cook. But a great place.

I really enjoyed staying at Dorset House and would stay again if I was in Christchurch. It was small, clean and friendly the old building had character. It was not to far to walk to the free bus into town (or into town if you felt like it). The kitchen was well equipped. The lounge was comfortable The bachrooms were modern.

Dorset House was a really comfy, clean place and I was really pleased we actually got twin beds and not a double bed. We ewen had a tv in our room which I have not experienced before at backpackers. It was only a ten minute walk to city centre alongside a lovely park and there were several eateries close by too.

A parcel was couriered to the hostel for me and was locked in reception. The parcel was not left out for me and reception was closed on the morning I left. One of the staff later had the arrogance to deny the parcel ever arrived or that a copy of its contents were faxed to me at another hostel. This was a cause of great inconvenience and annoyance for me. A review of staff attitudes is needed here.   Read Owner Comments

Hands down this was our favorite hostel in New Zealand! Quiet and a bit removed from town, this place was perfect for us. The lounge is huge, with enough brochures (and a booking service!) to plan the rest of your NZ trip. The kitchen was spotless and cozy, and the two rooms we stayed in (we stayed here twice for a total of 3 days) were well-appointed. In the winter be sure to ask if your bed has a heated blanket, because it's great! Cool guests too! And a friendly kitty!
