The only problem with Dougies is that if you are staying here.. you may NOT SEE Port Douglas.. I think I spent 85% of my time AT the hostel as the people were AWESOME, the facilities have everything you could want, and the bar deals made for no reason to search out drinks anywhere else! If you do go.. make sure you ask someone about the "game" and get ready to do some push ups :)) If I ever find myself back in Port this is 100% where I will stay.

Kudos to friendly staff who were eager to help with all kinds of logistical and other arrangements. Bar area is fun for hanging around at night.

Very nice place, especially the common areas (kitchen, living room, betc). The only detail is that there are many insects around the place, but it is understandable, as it is a forest area. The rooms are nice and clean, the same as the bathroom. Giving you your own dishes is a GREAT idea, as you can take care of them better than if they are of common use. Very nice place in summary!

The kitchen was a bit gross (not the fault of the staff, but rather the guests) the staff were excellent - super friendly and knowledgable and eager to help in any way possible. The rooms are motel-style (so the door opens right to outside) and the key-portion of your locker is only large enough to hold small valuables (if you want to lock up your bag, bring a bike chain or something to lock the larger cupboard). The bathrooms were clean (though open-air) and the atmosphere was super relaxed

I loved everything about this hostel. It is kind of like every great part of hostels from around the world rolled into one!! Comfy beds (no squeaks!), hot water, large storage cupboards with a smaller lockable part, big kitchen, nice bar when you can hang with the locals and have a few beers and Jager bombs (prob too many, actually) :p relaxing pool and hammocks. The only average thing is that it is a good 10-15minute walk into town, tiring if you're doing it a few times a day...Love it though!

This is a very great place to stay and relax. I have really enjoyed my stay in here and also the people were very welcoming. Good thing is that it has a bar and restaurant too which makes it very cool.

Lots of character and charm with a very friendly staff. Creates an atmosphere to easily meet and mingle with other backpackers. Only hostel I stayed in in Oz that had a bar on site, something I'm accustomed to from other world travels and think is a must. Not terribly close to all of the action, but not all that far either. Cheap bike rental makes it a moot point. Definitely recommended!

The accommodation was great and showers and bathrooms were all very comfortable except my friend and I couldn't even bring ourselves to use the kitchen for how dirty it was. Some signs encouraging people to actually clean their pans and dishes rather than just leaving them in the sink wouldn't go astray and the fridge looked like it had't been cleaned out in months. Otherwise the bar and pool area is nice to relax in
