I stayed at Dover Backpackers for just one night but was greeted by staff like they knew me. So friendly and hospitable. The pub and hostel was kept nice and clean. Very old building and very charming. Overall a really good experience for me.

The door needed to be able to be locked somehow. The bathroom was dirty. I was disappointed with the "kitchen" and the "breakfast". It would be better to advertise it more honestly I think.

The door had a security code which had to be reset OK point taken, but given you make breakfast yourself if you were 'disappointed' try making a better one next time? des fois j'arrive pas comprendre

The reception was really friendly, no complaints there, but not so nice facilities. Curtainless windows, lit by streetlight and cramped withs noisy beds above a bar with a penetrant alcoholic parfume, not so clean bathroom-with-toilet as only sanitary facility, kitchen a square meter 'room' below the stairs containing a fridge, which contained milk and cereal aka the included breakfast. Booking on Hostelworld.com adds 5 pounds, apparently. Fit for a short nights rest, not for calling 'hostel'.

This hostel was in its way to be totally refurbished. There is a good pub downstairs, nice for who wants to have a drink on a warm atmosphere when its raining :) You get also an amazing view on the castle, and it is close to shops, bus stations... To finish, Paul, the owner, is really nice with his guests, all the time trying to arrange you for whatever you need. For french people who doesn't speak that good in english, come here, Paul will be happy to give you advices by practicing his french.

Very dirty. Don't think sheets are changed between guests. Bathroom probably hadn't been cleaned for a long time. Uncomfortable beds.

This place is the perfect start to a trip on the island! Rest your bones and have a pint in the pub downstairs where even the Beatles and Rolling Stones once sat. Learn how Hugh Grant took his revenge here and if you\'re lucky Chris, who is a not-Frank, will tell you a lot more about Dover. I loved it!

I had booked a 2 bed and 3 bed room but when we arrived (8pm after cycling 150km from London!) we were told that this wasnt available and there was just one room sleeping 4. They put a matress down in the room for the 5th person. There was no light in the bathroom so we had to use our bike lights to have a shower. The entrance to the building was like a building site and the whole set up seemed pretty chaotic. There was no bedding initially although they did manage to find enough cleanish sheets

There were 4 girls and one guy and the guy who did not leave the feedback asked me to pretend there was only one room so you could all sleep together and I even gave him a £25 discount.....ask him yourself

A great hostel with loads of character, but not one for those who've not been backpacking before- a little more Khaosan Rd than Hyde Park, but if you want is a cheap night's stay, it hits the spot perfectly.

Perfect for everyone who is used to some hostelling.

Owner Comment (Show)
We have a policy of keeping it cheap and happy hostellers cleaning up after themselves.......!!!

Dirty sheets, no duvet, bunk felt like it was going to collapse ontop of me, no lock on evening entrance, homeless man staying in the yard, 1 toilet/shower for whole place, only hot water, overall.....shocking! however guy behind the bar seemed nice enough shame because it has great potential ! Stayed in plent of hostels and this by far was the worst! AND ITS FREEZING ! AVOID !!!!

Probably one of the worst hostels I've stayed in! Was due to two reasons - renovations happening in the bar so it was not only not open but also a mess and the hostel was shut when I tried to arrive so had to wait 40mins for the owner who never came anyway. Second reason was the people - i think they were working on the renovations but they were very loud and scary (I was actually afraid). Also one of them urinated all over the bathroom while swearing and it wasn't cleaned before I left! Awful

The staff were very nice but it was so cold in the room. I got up in the middle of the night and put my winter jacket on.

we have a massive log burner and nomally we are toasty and warm but the dial was accidentally set to go off at midnight, my sincere apologies as it was minus -11 outside, I would have given you your money back if you had told me, my apologies again

I really have to complain about this so called hostel! When we arrived there was a member of staff drunken, who bothered us verbally and the other guy didn't know how to check us in, at all. To the contrary, he seemed not to take us seriously and didn't do anything to prevent us from his drunken collegue. The room was ice cold, the bathroom couldn't be locked and incredibly dirty! It is a shame that hostleworld offers such a horrible accomodation!

Most people find Frank amusing, and sorry about the heating it was set to go off at midnight when it should have been left on as it was minus -11 outside...oops, please can you turn it up would have been easy enough, the dial was in the corridor right outside your room, we have a massive log burner and the place is normally toasty and warm but apologies for that

Back Packers Hostel was perfect for our needs. After a long days walking around dover's western heights in the drizzling rain we were able to come in, warm and dry our feet by a cosy log fire with a refreshing pint! Rooms were very comfortable and clean, the staff couldn't be more accommodating/flexible to suit our needs, couple of mins walk from centre of town and to top it off free parking! All in all a very reasonably priced hostel, would definitely stay there again.
