I love Downhill Hostel - I have stayed there several times and it's location is fantastic on the edge of a miles long beach. It is quite remote and probably most suited to those travelling by car. The hostel itself is warm and clean and very characterfull- it's a victorian building nestled into a hill. The hosts are lovely and for anyone looking for a bit of cosy escapism amidst spectacularly wild landscape its a treat. Sarah C.

We have always enjoyed staying here, beautiful location, great for baby, and the intoxicating aroma of the salty sea as soon as you open the door. What more could you ask for? We don't believe there's much that can match the location at any price point.

The tariff for Downhill Hostel puts it close to the guesthouse/B and B market but the rooms are generous and the location is great. Good clean hostel with lots of extras such as board games and music. However, the owners see having no wifi as a virtue and an encouragement for guests to interact. Can see their point.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Cute little house set in a great location along the beach with a great view of the Mussenden Temple which is within walking distance. Definitely a quite atmosphere so there is no need for ear plugs :)

The little flies in the kitchen could be taken care of by providing the guests with plastic boxes to put their food in. That way, those flies would not be so many.

Downhill Hostel was our favorite on the trip. William, the owner was friendly and helpful. The people staying there were great to visit with and the building was beautiful, clean and comfy. The view from our room looked out to the ocean. The walks on the beach and to the 18th century Downhill country estate and Mussenden Temple were added pleasures. We would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in the Hostel experience.

maybe the best hostel we've stayed in ireland - fantastic location and really helpful staff - big and well equipped kitchen and nice common area with a wonderful view - even if our double room was not ensuite we felt like in a hotel but with some fun added :) - very beautiful building in front of the beach. Just a drawbacks: no wi-fi

Definitely one of the better hostels I've stayed at during my trip. We arrived late at night and William waited up for us to check us in. When we arrived, very hungry from a day on the train, instead of simply making some suggestions, he got on the phone and checked if any restaurants were open for us and when they weren't, he brought us food from his own fridge to eat. The beds were comfortable and clean, very spacious bathrooms, location is amazing and right on the northern shore.
