Brilliant hostel! The kitchen is amazing, like a professional hotel kitchen so very spacious and well equipped. Right beside the train station so excellent for shuttle from ferry and Intercity bus. New World supermarket in train station so very handy. Staff sorted a problem with our booking straight away with a room upgrade, much appreciated.

Restaurant/Cafe dinner was below standard. Meat Burger/Pattie was minute. Beef and Mushroom Casserole was all big chunks of potato. Salad/Coleslaw was smothered in pepper. Pot of tea was lovely and good value and staff were great.

Good location, facilities were clean, no individual lights at the beds. Biggest fridge ever, and a huge kitchen. Huge, purpose built, but nothing special. No character, staff answer questions quite short and uninterested.

We stayed in the deluxe double which was great.I just thought id add a comment and you might like to add this to the more expensive rooms. It would be nice to have had some air conditioning as the room got very hot.The shower extractor fan was not working,as well as the batteries in the tv remote being flat, other than that it was a pleasure to stay there and we will be booking a room there in the future. Thanks again.

only stayed for one night in a double ensuite room and pay $90 this was way over price !! im happy we only stayed one night. the toilet in our room was disgusting the shower was the worst shower i have ever has was just too hot to even get in and what we thought was the only good thing in room the tv only had no reception. we expected so much more from a place that cost so much a night not happy as there are far better hostels for alot cheaper. will 100% not go back !!!!!!!!

All right place, did not really stay long enough to get a real good feel for it. Did not feel very secure as the bar is open to the public but on the first floor, so anyone and everyone walks in and out of the hostel regardless of weather they're staying there or not.

yes it was a great well run place. There seemed to be an effort to make the visitor welcome and the cafe was well catered and there was always someone at the reception 24 hours. I am not sure about the sharing of bathrooms as you may share it with a dominant character. I would suggest an en suite or the common bathroom to avoid any alpha male domestic persona's. However, on the whole this was an excellent place to stay and good to see an art deco building in full use.

We enjoyed our stay and really like the area to which you could share a meal. It was spacious and had lots of separate tables. The only downside to our stay was the room we stayed in had a window that was letting in the wind. It was banging all night long, so no one slept good that night.

While this hostel has good amenities and a convenient location for those arriving in Wellington at the train station, the state of cleanliness was simply unacceptable. After being in the room for a couple of hours and being fine with the rundown condition of things, I peeled off the sheets to find not just some but an excessive amount of hair. We were given new sheets, which turned out to be just as hairy, and opted to share my sleeping bag instead. Also, water leaked from the bathroom ceiling.

Very big place, so quite impersonal and a little bleak. Location is fairly central though and close to train and coach stops.

Fantastic location for getting to the railway station at 7am the next morning. Good advice from the staff re where to get breakfast (supermarket in the railway station). Can't comment on fun etc - we were only there for 13 hours.

We really liked this hostel - it's a big converted hotel with bar, cafe, big communal area and kitchen. Food is nice and good value, good drinks offers in bar.

I spent one night in a single private room. The bathroom was shared with what looked to be a second single private room. My room was quiet and reasonably comfortable. It had a tv which was a bonus. The decor was fairly tired and needed to be redone in the bedroom - that would help the room look cleaner too. Can't comment on whether the hostel is fun because I did not partake in the communal activities (was out with friends and family).

Of all the hostels I have stayed in in New Zealand so far this one is the best. It is clean, the rooms have a bathroom in the room and it is quiet. It is a great place to get some sleep after a long day of rugby and celebrating the All Blacks win! The building is an old hotel with a lot of character. The in house cafe and bar...big plus. Had a great time.

Great location near the train and bus station. Only a few minutes walk from the main streets in Wellington, which isn't a big enough city for being just outside the centre a big issue.

Nice place to stay, clean and friendly. Good showers. Only gripe is the over priced internet. Otherwise enjoyed my stay there.

Loved the Art Deco architecture. Loads of character. There's a great TV room which is huge - and a nice cafe with an open fire. A good option on Wellington.
