Getting to my place from Ljubljana Train/BUS Station
WALKING
If you are traveling around with your hand luggage and the weather is fine, I suggest to take a walk and get the first impresion of Ljubljana through a walking experience..
When you arrive to the train/BUS station try to find the main building (BUS-es are parked in-front of it).. If you turn yourself with a back facing the main entrance of the train station (as well railway tracks would be located behind your back) then your sight (front view) would be facing the direction of the center of Ljubljana (if buildings are not covering it there should be the Ljubljana castle in your sight)! It is just to choose one of the paths across the traffic street and walk for some time (approx.10 to 15 min) straight further on. You can also ask people for the direction of Preseren Square (Presernov trg in slovene) and they will show you the way to go..
Preseren Square is a round shaped square presenting the center of the city where more pedestrians paths all cross in one point - it is easy to recognize it by the statue of Preseren (slovenian poet), purple-red facade of a catedral (Ljubljana's Capital Church - Stolna Cerkev) with large stircases in front and the famouse triple bridge (Tromostovje) of architect Plečnik.
Now to get to the site of the City/Town Hall (Mestna Hisa Ljubljana, located just next to my place) from this central (Preseren) square one has to cross the triple bridge and walk straight further on.. there is a fountain (Robba Fountain - Robbov vodnjak) located right in the center of the Town Square (Mestni trg). One can quickly catcht sight of Ljubljana City/Town Hall facade behind the fountain a bit more rightwards.
The City/Town Hall is also the place where we would meet! Sometimes people in the street don't know the meaning of English expression 'city hall' so I suggest to write down on some paper the following Slovenian phrase: 'Mestna hisa Ljubljana - Magistrat' and then ask for the right direction... My place is just few steps away from this place!
