A very clean hostel, happy with the room and facilities. Although we booked a premium room well in advance, and despite this a budget room was only available. More to the point the receptionist still charged us the premium price. A fair bit of a lack of communication between hostel world and the hostel was evident.
Dreamtime is without doubt one of the best hostels you can go to in Australia. I've been traveling for a year and this has been my favorite spot. We had a 4 bed dorm, the room was clean, nice and cool with lots of windows, air con and fan. The Staff were very friendly and although a little bit of a walk to the pubs and clubs, it is worth it and being opposite a shopping centre is great just to pop to and get food. Free food vouchers included and they hold some nice relaxed events.
No towels included and hand soap is not present at all sinks. Wi-Fi is not included either, and the rate starts at something like $2 for 0.5 hour (??) if you want it. I was placed in a room on the main floor just beside the kitchen. Shower room is a little icky because people wear their shoes up until at least the shower stall and the floor gets dirty. $5 transfer from the airport is nice. Would probably not stay here again, would choose Travellers Oasis instead bc of the free WiFi
We fell asleep to the sound of someone vomiting for an hour on our first night. Bathroom smelled like puke for the rest of our 4 day stay, so definitely didn't feel clean. Prices were a bit steep for the extras, who would pay $10 for a slice of Domino's pizza? Hammocks were nice and relaxing. Kitchen would have been better if it had an oven, or even a toaster oven.
I had a wonderful time staying there. The staffs all are really kind, helpful and funny. They offer us a lot of events, $12 BBQ, movie night, fire show, pool game and so on which were all fun. The room I stayed was very comfy, cute and clean. There was no locker in the room which was the only thing that I didn't like about this hostel, but no worries there was no bad people in the same room. I will definitely stay at this hostel again. Thank you guys. You were absolutely my DREAM TIME!!
A very nice break from other hostels I had stayed in while at Cairns. Atmosphere is very relaxed and the folks who own and run the hostel are more than helpful and kind. It is a about a 10-15 minute walk from the lagoon, but backpackers are probably used to trekking everywhere. The hostel is closer to the big shopping centre and bus/rail station than other hostels. Just make sure you know reception closing times if you need to leave midday. They will provide you with a code to get your things.
I enjoyed my time here and would look at going back if I return to Cairns. The staff (Katia) went out of her way to help with bookings which was amazing. This is not a party hostel which was perfect for me, very chill in the evenings. We had a private room with 2 beds which was a very good size. Wish there had been a hook or two on the wall for towels. Location is not downtown but it is only a short walk away. There is a grocery store in the mall across the street which was really nice.
Only stay one night, you will know how lovely Dream time backpacker is. Nice staff, a lots of fun everynight, and relaxed atmosphere are most attractived me. :)

Good location - not too far to the Esplanade (10-15 min) and still quiet and nice. Supermarket, Post and the railway station are very close to the hostel! The hostel itself is clean, not too big and the staff is very friendly. Another good thing is, that there are 3 kitchens!
This is by far the best hostel I have ever stayed in. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and made sure to give us the best deals on various bookings. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the common areas are awesome, there are hammocks, a propane grill, and tons of space to hang out with other people. When we tried to extend our stay and found out they were completely booked, they gladly referred us to another wonderful hostel around the corner called Ryan's Rest. We love Dreamtime!
