We had a 4 bed room that shared a bathroom with the 4 bed room next door. Which is good and bad, makes it cleaner but no other toilets in the morning. It's located a bit out of downtown which is good because it's quieter but the bus for downtown doesn't really come very often. The uni of Texas is across the road which meant that the restaurants are super cheap in the area around the hostel. The rooms are clean, the beds are really comfy and the air con is powerful.

My wife and I got the private room, which had everything we needed. It is right near the entrance and the common room though so if people are talking loudly you'll hear them easily. Location is reasonable, there are bars and cheap eats down guad st, but you are not really walking distance to downtown or SoCo. Breakfast is very basic but fruit is good. Hostel options in Austin are limited so this is a great pick. If you are going to the airport use the hostel shuttle. Cheap, easy and reliable.

The hostel is a great place to stay! The only problem is the Thai Cottage restaurant below. Hostel guests should never patronize that place. Their is an asian lady with a very bad attitude that will scream profanities at you if you dare attempt to park in one of their spaces. Even is she has no customers she will not let you park for even 1 minute. The parking is limited but there is still free parking available in the area. The hostel employees are nice and are eager to help you if you want it.

Not a bad hostel. Too many people for one bathroom. The people that work there are good.

Excellent hostel. Very fun and friendly, but the one shower/toilet per two dorms definitely needs to be addressed.

Cool place very close to the campus.

This hostel was right next to the university, what was really nice. The staff was also great and helped me wonderfully. The security is allright. My roommates often left the door open. They have lockers, but they are not that great. Really hard to open the locker and put your stuff in at the same time. You can't cook there and the kitchen is a combination of breakfast area, laundry room and doing your dishes. There are lots of places nearby to eat tough and they are quite cheap.

Drifter Jack's was a great hostel to stay in during SXSW in Austin. It was clean and the beds were comfy. It would have been great if we could have stayed a little closer to the places we wanted to go out. Even though we were a bit out of the way there were tonnes of bus routes and we were always able to get a taxi home. A couple of points to note, the 6 bed dorms are cosy! And you can only access the bathroom through your room. Each bathroom is shared between two rooms so get up early or wait!

The staff is very helpfull, has a great attitude towards customers and you feel welcome! On the other hand, the establishment (including the staff) doesn't seem to share my view of what a hostel is for. If I travel anywhere I want to go out, and the hostel is a place to hook up with people to do so, and to sleep at when you come back. In this case there were loud music playing at the reception nearly 24/7, and receptionist waking you up when they introduced new arrivals... past midnight!

The bus stop is 2 feet from the hostel and there is a 7/11 where there are plenty of snakes when necessary. Overall I like it. The only problem is the bunk beds are too small. I am 5 ft 9 and I hit my head on the top of the bunk beds. Be warned... The bunkbeds suck. Besides that I love it. Good price, good people and will be coming back again.

Very impressed! Well operated Hostel in a very cool part of Austin-away from the ever present noise etc of 6th street. Lots of places to eat in the area, you also are within walking distance to stores, banks,Starbucks and a few local neighborhood style bars. The bus is right outside which can bring you to downtown Austin area and south congress etc..It is just over a mile away. I would highly recommend this establishment to people looking for a quality Hostel in Austin at very reasonable rates.

I didn't stay for long but I loved the free breakfast and the comforter was very warm. I didn't like the connecting bathroom between a male room and a female room, but there is a way to ensure no one accidently walks in on you. It's a hostel that takes on the college atmosphere from UT.

This place is a winner. Great people, chill vibe, comfortable beds. It's a hostel for people who know and love what hosteling is all about, and isn't that what hosteling is all about? Infinite stars. Will return. Will recommend.

Drifter Jacks is a cool place to stay in a great location. There is a bus stop and a 7 eleven right outside the hostel which is convenient! . The staff are really friendly and very helpful. The rooms are clean and the shared bathrooms are too. I would definitely recommend this hostel! The only downside was that there was not a stove or oven to cook your own meals, only a microwave... Although it is a new hostel so there may be one soon!

Andy, the owner, really makes sure everyone has a great time. They show you the city's night life. The hostel is right by excellent restaurants and right at a bus stop. The local artists who painted each room really helped add to the unique feel of the hostel.

I can't say enough good words about Drifter Jacks, shouts to all the crew that made it an awesome place to stay in Austin. Great decor in a good location (right next to the best pizza in Austin) with great staff and owner that'll happily help you, tell you where to go and come out and party with you. The Astro turf outside is also very comfy :D. This is up there with the best hostels in Europe.

All in all it was a good experience. I had fun with everybody including the hosts, very friendly and entertaining. If you are traveling with a car, parking is limited and compact.
