Pleasant, helpful staff. Free dinner (and glasses of wine) provided for everyone one of the two nights I stayed. Close to trams, supermarket and cafes/restaurants though the kitchen was a usually pretty messy but that is down to people staying there I guess. Room and common areas were as clean (and warm) as could be expected.

Hostel is just OK. Staff was not helpful (when you could find them). It is not near central Melbourne.

Solid place to stay if you're young and not expecting this place to be something it is not (it IS a cheap hostel after all). Great staff, friendly long termers, awesome location across street from grocery store

Had to have the night manager woken for my check in, and wake him up myself upon check out, as they seemed to have knowledge of my booking but were not prepared for it. Was required to take the linen provided down with me when I checked out. Other than these two issues, the stay was good, the room was well kept, and I would stay there again.

Decent enough location (maybe 15 minute walk from Southbank), and most of the other guests are long-term, so they're kind and welcoming but they tend to know each other pretty well already, and so joining in might be a little intimidating. The staff is incredibly nice though, and the facilities are comfortable and clean, if a little small. It's also directly next to a grocery store which is tremendous.
