I've been in Aus over a year and The Drop Bear Inn is by far the best hostel I've stayed in. So homely, Mel (the owner) is amazing, everyone is so nice, it's not clicky at all like some of the bigger hostels, it's more like a big shared house than a hostel. Been here three weeks so far and don't plan on leaving anytime soon! You even get a free meal on a Wednesday night! Definitely the best hostel in Melbourne!

the biggest problem is there are only three bath rooms in 2nd floor but every bathroom's window glass is partially cut.. guess it's preventing for fungus. anyway it just made me feel like having shower outside. so freezing ! i caught a cold after first shower! and hot water wasn't enough so that i had to finish with COLD water for once. besides one of them has broken light&faucet. so if you take a shower at night, there would be only two options. i'm sure it has broken for a long time.

Friendly staff and a wonderful owner who goes out of her way to offer social activities for guests. Be aware that in staying here, you've chosen such either for the bar scene or for the price, but not for proper amenities nor restful sleep. Expect to encounter dilapidated bathrooms and nigh unusable WiFi. The bar music blasts until 1 AM and usually resumes again at 10 AM. The kitchen is small and there isn't a proper lounge to be found.
