We booked a private double room and were given a room at the front, facing the road; very noisy and we didn't sleep well. On top of that, their router was out so there was no internet access, which made planning our visit of Dublin more difficult. Overall, disappointed and did not meet expectations.

Goodbye Everyone! Big thanks for all the stays Ive had here over the last 18 months, especially Pam and Misty. I have stayed dozens of times here now and can recommend it to those wanting a quieter experience then a noise and drunk filled Temple Bar hostel. An army of cleaners keep the place shiny and the staff and management are very helpful. Wifi is solid and breakfast is great. Good luck with the kitchen renos :P hahaha James

This is an old fashioned hostel but it has a great atmosphere and is wonderful value for money being so near the center of town. It was also quiet which gives a good nights sleep.

Good work all around, I can't really come up with anything to complain. Although maybe you could rent out some of the kitchenware for slightly longer times? 2 hours might cut very close, if you prepare and eat food for like 1.5 hours while lounging about, and then forget to return them immediately. Also, maybe there could be a small sign on the front desk that lists things you might need, like this: "Need stuff? Shampoo? Kettles? Adapters? Locks for dorm safes? Towels? etc."

This was my latest of many previous visits. A most enjoyable nights stay. Breakfast was much appreciated in the old hall and is always consistantly good and reliable. Very useful for catching early morning trains like myself. Staff are always nice and helpful. See you in two weeks for my next trip.

Huge place to stay with friendly staff. Only stayed 1 night but I would rather stay somewhere that has a free airport shuttle. They would arrange for airport pickup @ 7euro a person but there are other hostels in Dublin that have free shuttles and also a better location.... A great thing about this hostel though is that the bathrooms were huge!!! No having to wait in line. Really nice.

Another nice stay. One hint, if you spot a bus group in make sure you arrive at breakfast early or you will be fighting the teens when they come in a big group at the same time ;) Starting to get busier here as the days lengthen! Looks like the kitchen is getting another upgrade :) Pam, you were asking for ideas, if you havent had the chance check out Knockree Hostels kitchen... its smaller than yours but the layout, stocking at setup there is great (bar the same '1 Sink' issue. Thanks! James

Back again and things still looking up. Kitchen has been restocked and more improvements on the way. The new wifi system continues to be nearly flawless and while there seems to have been a changing of the guard in the staff the manager crew are whipping them into shape keeping them in good form. They were even nice enough to change this grumpy traveller from a top to bottom bunk ;) Cheers guys.

They ladies in the reception were very nice. Everything is clean also we can use the kitchen. The breakfast is really good~ My room is really big and there is a window that I can see the street down there and enjoy the sunlight there.

Ive been traveling through Europe, staying at different hostels and compared to others, this hostel could have given a tour when we first got there or told us about all the amenities because we didn't know there was a kitchen and laundry we could use and those are great things for a hostel to have!

Lovely, large hostel. However, didn't see many people and it didn't have that friendly close atmosphere - where were the people! Saying that, it was nice. Facilities wobbled between great and lacking. Bought an oven pizza one night to find there was no oven...which bummed. Attractive place though and for money, can't beat that location.

You get what you pay for. Beds are a bit rough but what really killed me were the showers. Push button operated and the temperature goes from ice cold to boiling hot in seconds.Fine choice if you are staying for a few days or are on a very tight budget, but to be honest, just spend a bit more to be closer to Temple Bar, because that's where most everything you want to see is. So for what's probably the least amount of comfort tolerable, this is a good choice. Just know what you're getting in to.

It was pretty good but for me I was uneasy with the location and as I was travelling alone I wouldn't have gone out in the evening and walked back to the hostel.

The fact that you sleep in an old monastry is amazing. You eat in the church and the dormitories are big. It is old, don't expect luxury, but I loved it!

I stay at the Dublin youth hostel every year and I love this place! It is in a beautiful old building, the bathrooms are clean, the breakfast is terrific, the location is very convenient, and I always feel at home here. The staff is friendly and helpful, you can store your luggage there all day, leave early, arrive late, there's a kitchen in the basement, the laundry works most of the time, and you have a lot of freedom and independence. Lots of interesting travelers stay here.

For the price you pay it is worth the stay, it's about a 15 minute walk from Temple Bar in a not so good area of Dublin. During the day it's fine, but at night walking back to the hostel I did not feel 100% safe, although obviously nothing bad happened. There is a complimentary breakfast in the morning which is a plus and the room I stayed in was very clean aside from the bedding...and the pillows were awful. But for a couple of nights I would recommend it. Staff was very helpful.
