I had a great and welcoming time at Duo Housing. The staff was very friendly and made me feel very welcome having moved to DC and this being my first "home" here. I would recommend this hostel to anyone of any age. Everyone is professional and highly motivated to their job! Thank Duo Housing for everything!

Stayed one night. The 24 hour reception desk was great. Bathrooms were clean. No shoes in the house rule is cool. But where are the flat sheets for the beds? And the beds were sort of creaky.

Close enough to the metro. Great staff. Very secure building and area as I arrived close to midnight alone. It was a little strange crawling onto the top of a bunk bed with a bunch of slumbering strangers, but all and all I really enjoyed my first hostel experience. The only negative was the supply of hot water. There is a sign stating the busy times and that hot water may not be available closer to noon. I showered before 7:30 and the water was just lukewarm!!

The security and other measures undertaken by the staff are fine. The noise cutoff (and drinks) @ 10 is due to a local ordnance, so not a big thing to carry on at a pub. The closeness of it, well, seriously... be social. Overall, it's a good place. Had a good time.

Great hostel, clean and safe! Mark can seem rude/brusque but he keeps the place nice and warms up once you talk to him for a little bit. Don't stay if you don't like to follow rules as there are many of them. Otherwise, this is a great place, facilities are clean and staff is friendly and informative!

An option for an all female room would have been nice. Great overall experience. Welcoming and accomodating staff. Please try to increase the availability of hot water for the showers. Thanks.

Few rooms have windows and the smaller, more expensive room is in the basement. A HUGE cockroach greeted us the first night, along with cold showers. Helpful staff but not overly friendly. But it's very secure- someone is always at the front door and it's close to downtown and public transportation. Towels and hair dryers are available at no cost!

Weve stayed @ hostels throughout the world &had expectations of this hostel as it was voted No.1 in the USA 2x last year, but after our stay we question that status.Creaky beds +unventilated 12bed dorm +no garuntee hot water = overpriced.I don’t have a problem with house rules being spelt out& many were common sense but the staff made the atmosphere feel like we were naughty little children, constantly watching over us.The head manager made us feel like he was doing us a favour by letting us stay.

This hostel was very clean, cosy, surprisingly neat, helpful and friendly crew. My friend and I had a great time at this nice place and I would definitely recommend it. However, they could upgrade their facilities by providing free breakfast as many other hostels do so (not only coffee or tea).

the rules were too much, the hostel caters to adults, but seems to treat the guests like children. Dorm doors should lock and staff should not come in at all hours of the night 'checking' on people, it's creepy and weird to wake up in a dark room with someone peering around with a torch. There was also no changing area in the bathroom and the see-through glass doors made me feel uncomfortable.

I you stay here prepare for a lot of rules and regulations. After the inially 30 minute induction you feel like your staying in a school dormerary. The staff are friendly, it's is a great location and is clean however the staff are jobs worthy when it comes to enforcing the rules! If your wanting some place to have fun with new people I would not stay here.

Great hostel. Clean and friendly, some what extensive list of rules but they do contribute to make it a safer, cleaner happier hostel so no complaints. Walking distance to all the monuments and everything I wanted to see. Highly recommend.

I really don't understand how this hotel was elected best hostel in DC. The showers are all located in the same bathroom so you are forced to shower in front of 6 others and there is no lock on the bathroom so basically anyone can walk right in from the common room. The staff is really friendly but the hostel has really strict rules on everything and there are warnings posted all over the place with the penalties that you have to pay if you break any of them so you don't feel very welcome at all

Really nice staff, very welcoming and helpful. No drinking on site after 10pm is a little strict. Can be noisy on fri/sat/sun night due to club next door but apart from that a really great place to stay in a great location for a good price!

The people are friendly, the hosts and people running it I found to be helpful and nice, and the place is well taken care of and clean. Some of the rules about noise and lights going out later at night seem to be put in place so everyone can have a pleasant experience.
