A great place, lots of space and seating areas, lovely warm kitchen and lounge area with logburner. Quiet and chilled-out. Our room was clean and comfortable. Only downsides are location might be a bit of a pain for people arriving in Kaikoura via bus and having to walk to the lodge and lack of mugs in the kitchen. Other than that, it was a good stay.

Overall I thought the place was great! Good amenities for lounging and cooking, and the hot tub was deeply appreciated after a long day. We had to change plans at the last minute and everybody there was amazingly receptive to the changes. Thanks for the awesome stay!

Damo at reception was excellent. The cork man (we can't all be from Galway) gave sound advise on the area and was very helpful as I was asking about whale watching tours in the area.Have no faults with the hostel either. The winter free breaky was well accepted. Would recommend to anyone to stay here.

It was raining like hell when we arrived, but this didn't change anything about the hostel being a very nice place to stay at. It is not too crowded, the room (3 bed private) and bathroom were clean and well equipped (TV and a tea/coffee corner), the guy that checked us in was very friendly and helpful and the only thing we were a bit sad about is that we could not use the pool and the hot tub, which were closed, probably because of the bad weather.

Noisy because the common areas are near the bedroom. Feel like it's not bright. The private bedroom is nice.

Lovely hostel with a really nice terrace. The staff we're really helpful and friendly. Only minor downside was there was only one plug in the room, and it was a little bit dark. But overall it was great!

This place has so much potential that it is a real shame to see how poorly maintained the building is. Kitchens are dirty, especially the fridges in which food is left to rot. The utensils are old and very few. Bathrooms and rooms are usually clean though. Many lights were not working in the building, resulting in people having to have dinner in the dark or candelight. Staff was aware of the problem but failed to fix it so it was left so for a few days. Swimming pool area a bonus.
