We spent 4 nights at this hostel. It is very well located near the city centre. Have a look at the rooms on the 2nd floor, they are better. Wi-fi available and tv in our room.

The walls of the bathroom and shower are see through, which was awkward since I was with a group I didn´t want to blatantly shower or pee in front of... They also overcharged me, despite my explaining to them that I had already paid a deposit to HostelWorld (a note for you guys - make sure the hostels understand what is going down.) The room was filthy, and they only switched when water started pouring down from the ceiling from the bathroom above. New room was nice enough (clear walls still)

The unfriendliest lady I have ever met! The attendant was so not personable at all. She was so busy trying to sell me tour packages that she did not answer any of my questions. Instead she would deflect my question by trying to sell me a tour. No common areas, so not ideal for the lone traveler.

El Buho was on a residential street right in town, but hard to find partly because almost no one In La Fortuna knew where it was. Our room and bathroon were very small, but adequate and exceptionally clean. It was more like a hotel than a hostel - no social or community space. Very inexpensive, and as I mentioned very clean.

We really enjoyed our stay at El Buho. It's definitely basic, the room had just a bed and small table, but it fit our needs. The adjoining bathroom was clean but there was no privacy. We found it fine as a couple but might be awkward if you were going to bunk with a friend. We had a view of Arenal and a view of the giant orange iguana living in the tree outside. Fun! The owner was lovely but had absolutely no English. A few blocks from the center of town the location was quiet but convenient.
