I had a great time at El Galope, even ended up staying a night longer. Even if you're not a big fan of horses you can have a very relaxing time there. The owners are extremly friendly and helpful and the rooms are beautiful!
El Galope is a charming, small working horse ranch in the lush, fertile countryside between Montevideo and Colonia, Uruguay. Monica and Miguel will make you feel like one of the family and yet give you all the privacy and downtime you need in the separate guest quarters, complete with its own kitchen and living room. You can choose to sleep in or go early-morning horseback riding or you can walk to a nearby milking barn to watch or to feed the calves. Monica can really cook great meals!
A really valuable place if you want to discover the Uruguayan countryside.
If you're looking for a break from the city - this is the place to go! The horseback riding was fantastic, the room and bathroom were clean and nicely done, the dinners were delicious and Monica and Miguel really take care of their guests and their animals. Only thing that should be improved is breakfast as it's very basic for the price. We had an unforgettable stay and it was hard to leave!
Lovely. Great to see the sunset and be in contact with the animals. Clean, quiet. Mr. Michael and Ms. Monica are treated very well, and horseback riding is essential. The taxi service was ultrapontual. It is a few kilometers from the center of Nueva Helvetia (captive cheeses), and access to Colonia del Sacramento is not difficult (10 taxi minutes plus 50 minutes by bus).
Truely wonderful place! Monica and Miguel are the perfect hosts. I really enjoyed our conversations, but was also given enough privacy. They were totally fine with me preparing my own meals (2 things I was worried about before). Horse-riding was fantastic, I learned a lot thanks to Miguel. So were the evenings with sauna, watching the stars, frog concert, fireflies... BTW the bikes are quite old, but good enough to ride the 6 km to Colonia Suiza.
Just the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature
