If you are looking for a good, solid, no-frills stay slap-bang in the middle of the Historical Centre then you really need to look no further than the Genovese. Its a small family-run hostel and the folks there work tirelessly to keep the place in shape. The big draw (and the big bonus) is the kidney-shaped wallowing pool and the rooftop terrace - both huge plusses in a city that can get really hot and humid. Good value for money. Recommended.
This is a okay place to stay, low key type. Great location. Andres the guy in the front is very useful, as for his fellow co-workers I cant say the same, they weren't very friendly. There is wifi but they don't have computers for you to use, nor do they have laundry onsite for those of you who are traveling for long periods of time.
Clean hostel with a friendly staff and small nice pool. Also a small rooftop teracce was fun for relaxing. Only one bathroom for ladies, though. You'll find plenty of restaurants and bars just around te corner. Recommend it for sure!
In general a lovely hostel. Good organized, rooms are big and clean, friendly and helpful staff and a nice rooftop!
Andres on reception is amazing, so helpful and welcoming! Its a small hostel, so not one that's great for socialising or meeting people, but it's good enough for a short time in Cartagena! The only thing I would say is that they only turn the air con on at 10pm, so if you want to nap during the day or go to bed early, it's too hot for that! Otherwise, great little place!
Loved our stay here! Made all the better thanks to the super friendly and helpful Colombia/honourary Irishman Andres at the front counter. Great location in a beautiful city.
This hostel is situated at the edge of the Old Town. it's peaceful and the staff is extremely helpful. I went back even when I switched accommodations (my friends were in town and we rented an apartment in Bocagrande) and they remembered me and helped me book a tour!
Fantastic hostel. A pool and open plaza make for a very relaxed and inclusive atmosphere. Talk to Andres up front - nicest guy ever and will point you towards good food, bars, and help with negotiating with local vendors!
It's worth staying here just to meet and have the help of the most pleasant staff. Andres is amazing and will help you with anything you need and readily available. Located on such a beautiful street in Cartagena! There's nothing negative I could say about this place, it really is wonderful!
Perfect location, walking distance to great bars and restaurant. The staff is really friendly and helpfull, Andres goes beyond his ways to help and find the answer to any question asked. The rooftop is a plus. The only negative factor is the breakfast (toast, jam and cornflakes), Eventhough the coffee tastes good. Overall a great place to stay
Great location on a fairly quiet street. Staff were really helpful with booking tours, local information etc. Some cool bars right nearby as well (a Cuban cigar bar on the corner, and a Russian bar in the square at the end of the street). Would definitely stay here again.
Amazing location within the old walled city! Helpful staff and lovely clean rooms.
nice swimming pool. excellent location near everithing there is to see.
This hostel is in a great location on one of the prettiest streets in Cartagena, in between 2 popular plazas with lots of shops, restaurants and bars, and very close to the wall. The staff are so friendly and helpful- I was there over my birthday, Andres brought me a beer and a cake complete with a candle and singing "happy birthday"- was so thoughtful to make my day special while travelling alone so far from home. Mattress was very comfortable, a/c and fan kept it cool. Bathroom was clean.

Great location and really nice chilled atmosphere. It's not a party hostel but easy to meet people to party with if you want. Comfy dorm beds with lockers. Quiet :-) Andres on reception is so helpful, informative and lovely. Breakfast is just toast and cereal. Could use more power points in dorm. But excellent hostel, I'll be going back after Carnaval
Andres was a welcoming guide to Cartagena and to Colombia!; I couldn't imagine a nicer desk manager. The lobby had plenty of character without going over the top, and Plaza San Diego is perfectly located.

Hostel was clean, comfortable and equipped with A/C. Location was central to many destinations within Cartagena.
Gorgeous hostel on colourful and pretty street with good restaurants on. Good breakfast of toast and cereal. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good showers and bathrooms.
I loved my stay at the Genoves. The staff was wonderful and helpful when I was sick. The room was great and the hostel was really clean. The only thing that i didn't love was the breakfast that was included with the room. With so many fresh fruit in Colombia, i think they could offer some fruit, not just cereal.

Okay hostel. Good enough for the value. Andres at the front desk was outstanding, everyone else in the staff was okay. The AC/room-fan was broken throughout my stay. They advertise free breakfast, just be warned this means three pieces of white bread, a cup for coffee, a bowl for somewhat old cereal, and a small glass of lukewarm milk.
