Great place with great character. The only downside was the traffic noise because its right on the main road.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Thank you for your review! Indeed we are close to the road, that is why we have different rates for different rooms. The rooms closer to the road (aka 55 meters from the last room to the road) have a more affordable price than rooms further from the road. Giving guests the option to choose what works better for each one.

Dear customer, We understand your frustration regarding the noise in the rooms. The Pan-American Highway is being expanded and the trees along it have been cut down. Therefore more noise is coming in to our complex. We are considering changing our entrance and closing the existing one, to buff the noise, but we have to wait for the final design of the road. Regarding the employees, el punto is only 7 rooms. Normally a hotel/staff ratio is one to one for a 5 star resorts, we are not even close to 5 star yet we have 6 people working for us. You have to understand we have to have three shifts a day, therefore it seems sometimes like just one person is there all day, but actually not. I Mariana, handle reservations, provisions, and marketing. If I am around I will handle reception, but like I have written in other comments before, if guests have a question or need urgent assistance I am available 24/7 over the phone. Our staff is all local and non-English speaking, but very helpful and caring, therefore will also assist you at any given time. Times are hard, and our expenses a very high, and yes we could be on the breach of closing, but we are working very hard to stay on top of things and make you our guests the best possible stay in order to continue in business and hopefully get pass the economic crisis. Thank you Mariana

I want to recommend El Punto because it's very charming. Sadly when we were there they were chopping down all the trees in front because, as we learned from a taxi driver, they're going to be widening the highway. That will mean months of contruction and then there will be lots of highway traffic! It's really too bad because it was a nice place to stay. The rooms are cool with lofts in each & the shared space is nicely furnished with lots of art work. Staff was friendly & breakfast was super.

Thank you Ms. for posting a comment and for your compliments. Although we will have to be patient during construction, the new road will be actually good for us. The entrance will look cleaner, and access much easier. So all and all we are happy about the new project. Regards, Mariana

After a hesitant beginning, we wound up being quite pleased with the room, its proximity to nearby shopping, eating and banking facilities . The breakfasts were excellent. Having a kitchenette was a great advantage. The sitting patio proved to be comfortable and useful. Despite being near a central intersection, it is just far enough off the road to be quiet and even attract some bird life. Bottom line: it worked for our needs. They might work on the approach and entry way.

Very clean and comfortable. Noisy, but Liberia is noisy. Staff was great. Breakfast was very nice. Parking lot was guarded at night. Most expensive place we stayed in Costa Rica, so it felt a little overpriced, but maybe it's a good deal for Liberia.

Spent 2 nights at El Punto in Liberia on our arrival to Costa Rica. Nothing fancy, but clean, quite and comfortable. The room we had was lofted with 2 single beds for our kids in the loft. We arrived late and the keys were waiting for us. Staff was friendly and helpful although they spoke only a little english. Breakfast was great! We felt very safe and secure during our stay. I would recommend El Punto as a good place to stay in Liberia.

El Punto is a lovely and unusual place with very friendly staff and excellent breakfasts but its location next to a very busy junction of the Interamericnana Highway means that the trafic noise is near intolerable. It is alos nowadays squeezed between a huge new garage and a new shopping mall - the adjacent well-thought-of restaurant has closed. If only it could be lifted intact and moved to a better location!

We loved El Punto. Maria was wonderful, and served us the most delicious breakfast every morning. Even though it is on a very busy street, once you go into the little courtyard you are instantly relaxed and feel as though you are on an island retreat. Additionally, it is within an hours drive to most of the North Western beaches, which has some great surf- perfect for day trips. I would highly recomment this B&B to anyone travelling in the area.

This is a stop-over hotel. Not really much to see. We thought there was a pool, maybe because of the bright and sunny website, but there's just lots of weird kids toys laying around the yard. I didn't like how there was only one sliding lock on our hotel door that seemed easy enough to kick in. Communication with hotel staff only in Spanish. Also, the hotel does NOT have a shuttle service... not sure why we were under that impression. It's $25 to get to the Liberia airport via taxi.

Dear customer, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay at el punto. We do have to advise future possible guests, to read the information provided about us very carefully before booking in other to avoid unnecessary inconveniences. Nowhere in our website nor the information provided in hostelworld says we have a pool. It clearly states in hostelworld our staff is local and non English speaking, the owner Mariana who also has other responsibilities is not always there but 100% available over the phone for any sort of question. We do offer complimentary airport shuttle, but it is under request only, because we do not have our own cars, we rely on other drivers for the shuttle, which we will happily organize if necessary. The toys situated in a bookcase, are part of our children's corner as we like to call it. We do receive many families with small children and they enjoy painting, drawing, and playing around with the toys we have. Liberia is not a “hip” town, unfortunately for all of us, but its a hub for people coming and going to or from Liberia airport. Nevertheless, It is also centrally located for travellers who want to visit Rincon de la Vieja, Santa Rosa, Palo Verde, Rio Celeste, Llanos del Cortes and Tenorio. Also Coco, Hermosa, and Panama beach are within 30 minutes. Liberia also offers several dinning options around town, Pizza Pronto, Jauja, Café Liberia, La Copa de Oro, are just a few minutes away. Dental and cosmetic surgery and treatment are also available in downtown Liberia, which makes it a really attractive place to stay. The last but not least activity available here are Spanish courses. Instituto Estelar offers very affordable but high quality Spanish classes to foreigners. We sincerely hope this explanation spreads out, we have worked really hard to get where we are, we accept our deficiencies, but we assure you we want to improve a little bit more every day.
