A lovely atmosphere on the outskirts of the adorable town, El Solar is an easy 10-minute walk down the cobbled streets into the center (Plaza Mayor) and surrounding streets. The bed in my double was firm but I had a great sleep in the peaceful environment. The bathroom is not ideal- more of an outhouse- and the hot shower is in a dorm room; the latter is a bit grimy. But you don't spend most of your time there. There are delicious crepes provided in the AM and tea and coffee if you wish.

El Solar was incredible. The host of the hostel is probably the nicest woman you'll ever meet. We were greeted with hugs and kisses and from that point on it was like living with your aunt or something. Really beautiful, homely place. Lovely rooms, great kitchen and loads of outdoor space. There are also cats and kittens which made it even more homely. A great place to stop and relax.

El Solar is a cam-style hostel at the very edge of the beautiful town of Villa De Leyva. It is rugged and rustic, but the views are absolutely glorious and the owner, Marta, is a sheer delight. They had accidentally overbooked for a festival the weekend we were supposed to stay, so Marta put us up in the home of a friend for the same price, but with full privileges to join the hostel for breakfast, coffee, tours, etc. It was a perfect solution and we had a glorious stay.
