It was clean, had numerous washrooms, 2 kitchens and for the most part quite clean. The dinners offered are tasty and good value. The only thing I didn't like is that it is not in an area that is safe for women to go out after dark alone unless in a large group. Given that dinner is usually eaten after dark, that means we can be stuck to eat at the hostel all the time.

The hostel is good enough on most accounts except these: 1) There are two kitchens. The one on the 1st floor is small and lacks basic equipment. The kitchen on the 2nd floor is spacious but it's closed at night, reserved for use by hostel staff. 2) One night a band played on the roof of the hostel, and then there was a very loud party lasting until 4 am. If you intend to go sightseeing during the day, bear in mind the hostel might decide you can't get any sleep the night before.

Staff were not helpful and the internet didn't work... we ended up leaving early even though we had paid for accommodation in advance, would not recommend staying here.

The hostel is good. But when I made my book, I ask for a room with 4 beds. When I check in, they put me in a room with 4 beds, but to acess the room next door it was necessary to open the door of the room and croos. And the room next door was for 6 GUESTS! They made a lot of noise at night and this left me and the other guests in a very bad mood.

Very nice staff, always ready to help you. The building is beautiful specially the terrace. Location however is not very good. I felt not very safe getting there at night.

I pretty much liked my stay in El Viajero. They are attentive and friendly. We had a little problem with our reservations and they were so impregnated to work in a solution. Besides that, its close to main tourist points in Montevideo.

Good location and clean hostel but it was often difficult to get information from staff as were always so busy and it would always take so long to ask them anything. Nice hostel but lacked a little in organisation and helpfulness.

I am not quite clear though re the security of the location.... Seems like after 6 it is not a good idea to walk around.

The Staff is very friendly and helpful, if you have questions about Montevideo. When I arrived at the hostel they showed me on a map places of interests and how to go there and additionaly gave me a short guide for interesting places of Montevideo. I unfotunately had to cancel the last of my three nights. I payed all the three nights before, but because I told them 24h before leaving the hostel I got my money back for the third night! Very good!!

liked: very clean nice hostel in walking distance to everything, roof top; not liked: many 40+ people and the prices at the hostel bar (beer was the same price like in the pubs around)

It was insanely hot in the dorm, so much so that I went upstairs in the middle of the night and lay on the roof just to get some air. If they're going to have that many people in a windowless room in summer, there NEED to be fans. Not optional. In general the staff were great, helpful, and fun people to spend time with. They definitely made the hostel for me, and made it worth the trip.

it is a great place for people to meet, but it can get very noisy from the kitchen and the living rooms. also the staff is not very sensitiv about noise during their nightshift and early in the morning.
