Definitely a good place to stay in Colonia, a heaven on earth. The hostel is gorgeous, rooms are really nice with comfortable mattresses and nice old wood beds. AC was a little bit too low however. Really good atmosphere. THanks them again.

great location, comfortable enough. however, the staff dont seem to understand that there is such a thing as too much reggae, especially late at night or when you may feel like watching tv. otherwise a nice hostel

An okay hostel, but nothing out of the ordinary. We read about it in our Lonely Planet travel book and it didn't quite meet our expectations. Good location though, and there is air conditioning in the private double rooms at least.

Perfect hostel. Grate location, helpful and nice staff. 100% Cleaned! There's only one thing that for me it wasn't a problem, but for someone it could be - they have a dog inside the hostel (the common areas, only). He/It`s very friendly, but if you are allergic or have some panic, you wouldn't like. But, in general, I strongly recommend this hostel.

This hostel was poor. They made us wait 5 hours (!) to check in. We got there just after 9, fine, check in isn't until 2, but every hostel I've been to where I've arrived early, as soon as the bed is ready they let me check in. The staff was unfriendly, more interested in playing their music and chatting online than dealing with guests. They had their own music on loudly, ALL THE TIME! I had to ask at 2am 3 times for them to turn it off. Bad breakfast. Not much to do in town. Dont stay 2 long!

Owner Comment (Show)
Lauren thank you very much for your comment! About waiting until 2 pm for check in, is because the hostel is full, we must first make the check out and then the rooms must be cleaned to so deliver the rooms in perfect condition, however you may leave the luggage in the luggage room and use the hostel without any problem. In my opinion and not necessarily because I work in this Hostel, if you get up at the set time for breakfast will find one of the best breakfasts that can be offered, where you can enjoy coffee, tea, yogurt, milk, chocolate, cereals, fruit, bread typical of Uruguay, and typical jams. Our goal is to offer passengers a typical Uruguayan breakfast, this is not an English breakfast, but would not consider a poor breakfast. Is a good idea to remember that the hostel is also the best place to take a drink at night and socialize with other passengers. Anyway we will consider lowering the music before 2 am. Best Regards!

We were only one night. Was very nice to stay there. Staff is very helpful and kind. We will probably come back to the same hostel in further trips. Complete breakfast, nice building, hmm... there are no windows in the rooms, but there is AC,so it is not that bad. Clean bathrooms and nice atmosphere. Maybe it is not as party and funny as other hostels, but we have to remember it is located in Colonia, where actually not much is going on! =) We liked it though!

OK for a 1 night stay due to the good location, near the sights & a few blocks walk to the ferry terminal/bus station. The hostel lacked atmosphere and I felt like just another traveler passing through. Maybe if you stay longer the experience would be different.

It was a nice atmosphere. They booked my bus to montevideo. The rooms were fine, showers/toilets not great in standard and number. The power was off twice when I was there but that was because of carnival preparations so no problem from the hostel

My experinece at this hostel would be one of the worst I have experienced in 2 months of travelling so far. The only good thing about this place was the location and some of the staff were helpful. The beds were uncomfortable, the breakfast was poor and we also had a 50 + year old man staying in our dorm. The worst part though was that the hostel would play very loud music in the kitchen/reception area until at least 1:30am, meaning you could not get any sleep. Do not reccomend this hostel

Its a nice place to stay, near from everything but music from reception is too loud at bed time or after 02am at least if they played some quiet music it could be better. breakfast is good for a hostel, there are variety of thing to enjoy. i have a nice memory from el viajero Colonia unfortunately i cant say that the quality of service is the same in each of the el viajero hostel. i had a terrible time in montevideo when i went to ask information in there and the receptions was very rude.

I had a really great stay in El Viajero. It is close to the ferry, close to the main street and close to the old town- perfect position! Really beautiful hostel, big windows in the common area, BIG dorms with air-conditioning and black-out doors so no light- makes for a good night's sleep or if you need sleep in the day. A great hostel.

This was the best hostel I stayed in whilst traveling South America. Simple but effective, it had everything we needed and provided us with a very relaxed atmosphere to enjoy ourselves. Will definitely stay here again.
