It's a beautiful hostel, well located but with a crew not so lovely!
Liked this hostel; great location next to the Old Town, nice staff and we enjoyed the roof terrace and TV room. Also, the rooms were HEATED!!!! We had to switch rooms during the night due to a pretty disgusting 'guest' in our room (after spending the last 9 months in hostels this is the first time we have had to do this, but hopefully he will have been told to move on by now!!) and the place could be a little cleaner.
Good initiative on the hostel dinner front
Good hostel, close to the centre of town and relaxed. Would stay again.
Great location, clean, not a massive party hostel but I'm sure that's because it was winter. One of the staff, Frederico, was really nice and helpful
Lovely hostel very clean and staff were very helpful.
Just spend a night there but staff was really helpful!
The hostel is cosy, following the style of Colonia. Very comfortable beds and beautiful decoration. Only complaint: only one bathroon for evryone in the hostel. Had to wait to use it almost everytime.
The staff was wonderful and friendly, I couldn't ask for more! However, there were no events going on both nights we were there, despite what the website promised. Our bedroom and the entire hostel constantly smelt of sewage. There was often no soap in the bathrooms or toilet paper. There was loud music playing right next to our door early in the morning which woke most of us up. The entire area was deserted, as well, even though we were there on a holiday weekend.
Staff went above and beyond to help our group out. Very personal and honest. Breakfast was awesome, and the lounge hangout area made me feel like I was on vacation at a resort place. Hostel was very quick and immediate in cleaning up all messes. Easy to meet and talk with fellow travelers.
BEST HOSTEL EVER!!
You need to buzz EVERYONE in. Someone just walked in and stole my friend's iPhone. Bad security. Need heat.

Room for 6 a bit to small. (especially with big luggage). Bathroom need to have a better shower curtain to avoid water everywhere. Staff is friendly and helpfull.
Went in low season, so the atomosphere probably wasnt what it would be in summer. Staff were helpful, but not smotheringly friendly. Rooms were basic but clean and good, bathroom was very clean and the shower was great both pressure and temperature wise. Breakfast left something to be desired, the bread was hard and stale. Location is excellent, really close to everything in the downtown area of Colonia, although Colonia itself is quite small so everything is pretty much together. Good value
Amazing location, really close to the bus station and the old town. The rooms are a little small but fine in the quiet season. Particularly loved the log fire and dog at night.
We loved the place, the hostel is very nice but we had get a private room with shower drain broken that caused a little bit discomfort when we took a shower because flooded the bathroom and those days were cold days for walking in flooded floor. By the otherside, the staff Fred and others were totally incredible with us, talking in portuguese and giving us many tips. The hostel is very well located and has a good brewery by side on hostel.
El Viajero was by far my favorite stay in all my months of South American travel. The town was too cold to explore during our short stay, but Fredrico, the host when we arrived, was extremely welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed the 'homey' atmosphere and the facility was a perfect fit for the historic little town. I had a great experience and absolutely recommend this hostel to anyone traveling through Colonia del Sacramento.

Comfy beds, clean sheets, and great staff. Rigth between Old Town and "New Town". Very close to both the beach and coastal road. Lovely hostel and VERY peaceful location!
Among the top three of the many hostels I have stayed in stayed in worldwide! Although its neither very big or in a special location you feel welcome an relaxed. Its laid back, quiet and cosy. The common room with its small bar and the fireplace is a good place to hang out and meet people. Breakfast is the hostel usual w cereal and bread. Within walking distance from the ferry terminal and the city centre. Would definetly stay here again!
we really enjoy it stay at El Viajero! our room it's was really lovely, and everything was really nice!
