We had a great stay at El Viajero. The staff was really helpful and friendly. Nice breakfast =)
Pretty standard. Nice location.
This place has a nice vibe with a roof terrace and a patio. The rooms were small and the electricity went out for a couple of hours when I was there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only thing what is abut concerning is that everyone seem to be able to walk in the hostel and go into the rooms since the front door is always open and there are no locks on the rooms.
We stayed in a private room with ensuite for 2 nights, it was comfortable enough the room was clean and there was also not much noise so we slept well. The shower on the first day was pointing away from the wall so wet all the floor in the bathroom so be careful with that, the breakfast wasn't the best there wasn't much variety (no fruit at all....) the location was perfect and the staff were friendly enough though and fairly helpful albeit we had to ask for all the information we received.
Great location, nice common areas, pretty building, and friendly staff. The problem was we stayed in the 4 bed dorm, which is at the front of the hostel facing the road. Between the dogs barking, the cars, the birds that sound like car alarms (yes it's true!), and worst of all, the other guests who sat outside talking until the early hours just below the dorm window, this made for the worst 2 nights sleep we'd had in two months! And the staff said nothing. Do NOT book this dorm!
Watch out for the door step which is at two different heights, I think they will wait until someone seriously hurt themselves before sorting it! Was in room one which is just outside the hostel front door, so you need to be buzzed in at night to go to the toilet, not ideal. Kitchen was pretty small. Apart from these gripes the place was okay, bathroom was large and clean.
It's got a very homely feel to it, breakfast is great and the atmosphere is great.
My only suggestion would be to lock the door of the luggage room. All guests are leaving there their things when checking out, and the door is really close to the entrance of the hostel and sometimes it's impossible for the staff to take care of this part of the hostel. I think it would be safer if you just put a lock on it.
We stayed 2 nights in this hostel but didn't like it that much.. The 8 bed dorm next to the living room / breakfast area / hallway is very noisy. 1 bathroom was not enough. It was also very warm in the room. We wanted to put on the AC but someone in the room claimed to get sick from AC.. The location was ok, but thats not so difficult in Colonia. Breakfast was average. Roof terrace was nice. Overall; nothing special, no good value for money balance.
Typical small hostel in the small town Colonia. Good location right in the middle. Stayed in November midweek and town was dead. No atmosphere at hostel. No activities offered by hostel - don't know if this was because it was their "low" season or not. I asked about a walking tour and they had no information to give me. They accept Argentinean peso which was good for us. Breakfast was standard for the area, aka nothing special. Overall Hostel is fairly average, would potentially stay again.
The staff is a really positive point on that Hostel, specially the front desk staff, Frederico, he has done a great job! The hostel atmosphere and location are perfect for the city! 100%!
A really nice and beautiful hostel. Close to the busstation and the citycenter. Staff was really friendly!

This hostel was laid out really well with lots of places to hang out. The living area was a good place to meet people. The facilities were clean. The kitchen was quite small. We stayed in the four bedroom shared bath and that was a bad choice as the shared bathroom was used by everyone in the hostel (even though they shouldn't have), so I was waiting for the bathroom all the time. Breakfast was decent.
The place is really good and people so nice. Location is perfect to walk around the city. The unique incovenience are the bathrooms, they are very old and the bath are always wet.
We had a fantastic stay at El Viajero Colonia, the staff were lovely and very helpful! The location was right of the main strip and in convenient walking distance from the ferry and bus terminals!

The hotel had some of the best facilities out of my time in Uruguay and Argentina. My room had an ensuite bathroom and well designed storage space underneath. In addition, they had a computer available and they did not charge me for printing out my reciprocity tax and ferry ticket which some other places in Uruguay/Argentina did (though I had to go to their sister bed and breakfast since they ran out of ink). The staff is very professional, but not as much socializing as other places.
The beds were very comfortable. The hostel is perfectly located halfway between the historic centre and the beach !
“spent a day at this hostel because I wanted to cook. Cooking facilities ok, not great. My single room was pleasant, everything worked, in an old-fashioned kind of way. The house has a nice atmosphere. The lockers in the front room for stored luggage can only hold a day pack. There are several staff, male and female. They were mostly fine, and some could speak English. Breakfast was also ok, with cereal, breads, milk and coffee. As an earlier reviewer remarked, guests have to wash what they use.
Cute house. Just some hundred meters to the historic center. BBQ is not worth the money as meat was way too done. But wine includes refills which is nice.
