İf you are looking for a quiet place in the middle of nowhere but close to a very beatiful beach, it is a perfect place to stay. As a hostel everything was good. Recommended

Friendly staff, reasonably priced, fun events in hostel. $45 USD cab ride to downtown punta, or a bus for $2 that comes every hour.

For the money you pay this is a decent hostel the hostal is a 25 min bus journey from the centre of punta del este but is close to good beaches. Each bus journey to the centre is 28 pesos one way. The directions supplied on how to get there could be a lot better. The pin indicating the location of the hostal on google maps is actually 3km away.

Its out of town and the direction for it are poor. It is near the best beach tho and has a great bar and pool. But if you want to be in the toen centre look at other places

Despite being a big hostel, it did not offer many facilities. You had to fight for space in the fridge, buy a padlock for the lockers & hire towels. Plus the staff seemed very impatient to deal with you.

El Viajero was a great Hostel in at a Fantastic Beach. A few little issues. Condom found under the bed (still in wrapper) however shows they do not clean the rooms very well. Mini Padlock as the room lock could be replaced with a door handle and key. Charged us on credit card 5% which is fine however they also changed from Uraguay to US dollars at a very poor exchange rate before charging me which was a pretty poor way for them to make more money off me, make sure you check this when you pay.

Nice hostel, good atmosphere and usefull/kind/nice staff. The only thing is that the hostel is placed in Manantiales and not in Punta del Este (Manatiales is about 15-20min from Punta). Manantiales is a small town and lot of things happen there during summer (also in La Barra), but if you want to be in Punta it might not be your place (anyway we went two nights to party at Punta).
