Nice, chill, social, international crowd. Most significant negative thing, it is at least 30 minutes to get to Manhattan by subway, not 10 like it says on the little bio. The staff is great. The owner is milking the s#$t out of the property. There are 14 beds is a shack in the back yard. and another 10 in the relatively dark basement. The only proper rooms are upstairs, 4 rooms with 4 beds each.

Owner Comment (Show)
Dear Guest, thank you for the kind review. Just correcting a little inaccuracy in your comment, we never said 10 minutes from Manhattan. It can be done in 20 minutes if you take the G to the L (though we don't have that written on our bio either).

Upon arrival I didn't like it all that much because the atmosphere was so quiet and rather dull, no activities offered, etc. but this place does attract good people, and I ended up making amazing friendships while I was there. Didn't want to leave in the end, it became a home away from home. The place itself is cute and homely, and well maintained. Hard to charge your phone though, not enough outlets. Most staff are cool, except one who was just unnecessarily rude when moody.

The staff was difficult to get a hold of early in the morning. We were charged a late fee, even though we tried to explain that we were late because of the address change from the original webpage. Because we were charged the late fee, we did not have enough cash (no credit cards accepted) so the staff took my ID - when I needed it the next morning to get money from my bank, staff was not where to be found. This was very irritating - otherwise, it was a nice hostel.

Dear guest, we sorry we had a difficult time with the staff. She is a new staff member that is doing an internship and English is not her first language. She misunderstood our policy that if you paid an amount equal to at least the first couple of nights we did not have to hold on to your ID until you paid the balance. We will make sure to have our staff fully understand our payment policy so that this doesn't happen in the future.

I thought it was perfect for what I was looking for. Though it is indicate "breackfast included" which is not true. Dried milk, instant coffee, sugar and mix for pancakes are not what I call a breackfast. There is no fruit, no cereals, no milk...

Clean and tidy, but rooms are very, very small. Upstairs rooms are fine, basement is dark. Cute cat. Staff were usually helpful, but often not local and did not know the area well. Relatively quite at the time, could have a conversation over breakfast. Location block away from subway was great, neighborhood felt quite secure. A fair bargain for the price.

Staying here was so great. Close to the subeay and city make it convenient for those on a budget and might not want to stay somewhere too crowded snd touristy. Also within "stumbling distance" to several good bars like "black swan" and "one last shag". The comfy living room and kitchen makes for great socializing too.

On the first floor, there were so many guests chatting in loud voice after midnight, but the staff didn't stop them even she was there. I couldn't sleep well because of the noise all night. Other than that, I am satisfied with my stay.

This was one of the cheapest hostels in NYC for when I wanted to book. It has a homey feeling and the staff were very nice. The vibe here is great since it's a small hostel and I got to know a large percentage of the guests.

The location I initially booked is not the one I was sent to. This was not a problem as I was sent to the one at kosciusko st. The location is just around the corner from Bedford and norstrand subway station, making it easy to get just about anywhere provided you have a subway map. I gave the staff an average due to half the staff where good, the other half were a bit clicky and didn't seem to want to know anyone. Lastly the rooms in the house are good if a little small, the dorm out back mmmmm?
