Renee at the front was wonderful, great check-in at arrival. Would definitely stay here again.

Fish tank lodge has a very nice feel and the staff are so nice and accomodating. My only complaint was that the walls are a bit thin and they probably need a few more showers.

Lovely hostel especially because of Renee helping me. She went above and beyond to get my activities sorted and even gave me a ride there! Absolutely wonderful! Showers aren't too great.

Amazingly comfortable beds- big solid wood bunk beds with real thick mattresses. No swaying metal frames and uncomfy thin mattresses here! Good location on main road, balcony only gets sun in afternoon not evening. If you want a higher view over the sea, choose a hostel on the hill behind. No lockers, good enough kitchen, very clean washrooms and big lounge.

Nice staff. Great location. Well stocked kitchen. Free wifi was a bit slow and the showers and rooms were a bit dirty, but totally tolerable.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel! When checking in the lady was friendly, in a genuine and unforced way, which I really liked. The atmosphere was also really homely and relaxed which I enjoyed. The location is perfect - the Intercity coach stops right outside and it is also opposite Kaikoura beach! The beds were ridiculously comfy! Never been in a hostel with such a good mattress. Overall think this is a awesome place to stay!

This was my first time staying in a hostel dorm and it was a great experience. Fish tank had a perfect location and a really nice chilled, friendly atmosphere. Nice lounge and the kitchen was really clean and had free tea and coffee which was great. Incredibly comfortable beds too!

I was in a 3 beds room shared. The room was so small that to open the suitcase, I had to bring it outside of the room. Room and toilet were not very clean. Very good location and for those travelling with InterCity or Naked Buses, the stop is just in front of the Hostel.

Hostel a bit tatty, but generally clean. Need more than 1 washing machine. Had tiny 3 bed room - not enough space for luggage, also thin walls, noisy plumbing and smell of damp. But comfy bed, staff very friendly and excellent location, bus stop right outside. For the price could find better.

Awesome stay but not really good for smokers as you are not allowed on the balcony you have to go downstairs out and away from lodge so very good for non smokers, the dorm rooms are old and dark but worth your money. And no alcohol lodge but sweet as its right in town and nice pubs around area. Good location and everything you need, nice kitchen and well organised.

I had a great stay at the hostel. Lovely place in the city next to the beach. Free internet which works well. Amazing.

The hostel was so friendly, a great place to meet other travellers in the large communal area, perfect location and generally clean. The rooms were slightly small but no problem as was out most of the day. Facilities were pretty good and even had a bbq guests could use. The i site was opposite and all buses (stray, kiwi, intercity, naked etc) all pick up and drop off outside the hostel. Would stay here again and would recommend to others. Thanks for having me:)

Great place to stay. Friendly staff. Great cat that was drinking the water out of the fish tank at the front counter - seemingly oblivious to the goldfish swimming around in it :)

Free unlimited wifi. But tiny three bed dorm: barely enough space to put bags on the floor. Kitchen not particularly clean, loads of flies.

Nice place with unlimited free wifi. The building is a little dated but has a lot of charmed. Hostel is located in the middle of town near all the shops, bars, and restaurant. The beach is literally across the street.
