Common room could be bigger as well as kitchen. Nice that bar is attached to the hostel. Really nice and decent food! Location was very good and the freshly baked scones in the morning made my day !! Very delicious :-)
Clean and confortable place perfectly located in the village to go explore the glacier or the lake. The place is a bit small though; for the amount of people and dorms, it would definitely need more showers, and a bigger kitchen and lounge so people can actually hang out and not be stuck in small dorms. It also needs lockers for everyone. Otherwise, the place is good to sleep.
The free WiFi is 200MB/day booked rather than unlimited.
A big and clean facility, though the building where the dorms are feels rather sterile. Just 2 side-by-side power outlets in the room for 4 people.
The place was not the best in the world, but it is affordable, near to glacier guides. Shane, the proprietor was absolutely gracious and charming. He really makes the place!
It's ok to check in at 2pm. But not having anyone there from 10am to 2 pm is something guests are not looking for.
old, thin mattresses and squeaky, unstable beds didn't make for a good night's sleep, but the location next to the rainforest is nice
We had a pleasant stay at Fox Inn. It has a lot of potential because it has a well equiped kitchen, nice movie selection, good showers ,excellent location and a friendly host. But there are a few downsides too. For example the bunkbeds aren't that good (noisy and less than average matressess). Also is it cold in all the rooms (also common areas). The heaters doesn't work untill late and it can be very chilly at the West Coast, even during the summer.
Clean - great location - couldn't figure out the heating system..
One of the best Hostels we stayed at in our year in New Zealand. Very helpful and friendly staff, they went the extra mile to make our stay even better. Love this place!
The kitchen and bathrooms were not clean. The sink taps are terrible, they spray everywhere and also get stuck. Also, the soap dispensers are not all working. It seemed things were not well tended and cared for.
Good location for all Fox has to offer. Good facilities with a very small TV room, with lots of choice of movies. Very disappointed on arrival when check in was closed from 10am-2pm, which was when buses arrived. So we sat in common room, as front door was open & waited to check in, only to be told off for 'using' the facilities before we had checked in. I think the manager would of preferred us to have waited outside in the cold.
one of the few hostels that provide free wifi. easy to find the place and the manager is a lovely man. the bar down stair is also very good. i like it there. :D
Our 4 person room was a literal furnace! A fan would have been excellent. We werent a huge fan of the window open as there was a bed directly under it and that person wasnt fond of the spiders on her bed.
We enjoyed our stay. Staff were friendly. Would highly recommend lockers for the dorm rooms. Bunk beds are squeaky and could use better support.
Although we only stayed here one night, for us cynical motorbikers, this was a great memorable stay thanks to the great staff, the Keas and where we were allowed to keep the bikes. Nothings to much bother to the staff, rooms and facillities spot on. all in all a great place to stay
Most unfriendly kiwi I have met so far (reception lady), our room was super moist and smelled badly. No common area besides the poorly equipped kitchen..
