Hostel was in a great location, and the guy at reception was brilliant! He gave us loads of info when we first checked in and was super helpful for our entire stay, with recommendations for places to eat and how to see the glacier. The room was lovely and spacious, although the plastic garden chair was a bit strange. Looked like they were doing some decorating and cleaning in the main building's lounge area whilst we were there. Overall had a great stay, made better by the wonderful staff!

Pleasantly surprised at this hostel! Secure and the staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing was the kitchen had an odd odor. The freshener was trying to mask it instead of prove it. But otherwise, clean place with good free movies.

Nice stay of 2 nights at Montrose, a spot very well located. The very kind host was always available for us and for the other customers. We recommend you to have a stay there in Franz Josef !

heating switched automatically off during the night and it was really cold

I was disappointed with this hostel. It was cold in the common areas when I was there and a funny smell seemed to linger in these areas too. It needs updating I think. The staff were great and very helpful - they made you feel at home. The showers were excellent with lots of hot water, sadly the bathrooms themselves were freezing. Comfy beds and extra heaters were provided in the dorms if needed.

very poor sound insulation, can hear whenever someone flushes the toilet and can hear the conversation from next room.

Had an excellent stay of two nights there! Friendly Argentinians running the hostel, really clean, quiet, well equipped kitchen. Wifi is really fast. Atmosphere wasn't as good as in other places, but I bet it's better during summer, wen you can chill outside. Living room it's just too big to get involved in big talks. Really good value for money.

We only stayed one night because we had limited time. We had a private room which was really clean and a comfy bed. Free WiFi and the guy at reception was really helpfull. Franz Josef is a small town but cousy place to be with nice restaurants and friendly people.

Very nice atmosphere and staff.

Spa and sauna for the people so inclined. Lots of parking. Lots of things to do at Franz Josef. More things to do at nearby Fox Glacier. Things slightly more expensive due to the remoteness. You can walk to the glaciers, walk on them, fly over them, kayak on the lake and any number of outdoor activities. Cafe food came to both with a heater included. Food very yummy. Driving up from the Haas pass is a marvelous thing as well - windy roads with incredible views. You can see the ocean too.

Great place with excellent staff - very helpful!

The Montrose was a great hostel. The kitchen was large and tidy, the lounge was spacious, and most importantly the gentleman who runs the hostel was friendly and fantastic. We were there for four nights, and after our second night he asked if we needed anything -new sheets or our trash emptied - service we wouldn't expect at a hostel! He was incredibly friendly and helpful. The space was very clean, and you can tell that he takes pride in running a nice hostel.
