The location is bitter sweet - easy to get to from the airport and right across the road from a metro station, but not the best part of town (most things to see/do are about a 45min walk or you have to take the subway). Toilets/showers/linens were clean and beds were comfy. The hostel is mediocre by euro standards, but with an open mind and a good attitude you can enjoy your time here! Cost is cheap too ;)

After looking at the other reviews we were worried, but it was more than fine! Yes it isn´t the most luxurious but it is one of the cheapest hostels in paris and it was clean, it is also right across from metro which is handy. The ¨sketchy´´ groups of men outside are only selling smokes during the day and disappear at night, so it´s really nothing to worry about. I would recommend Friends if you´re not looking for the highest standards but a cheap bed

The staff was very friendly, and extremely helpful. As far as location goes, in a weird place, but conveniently next to a metro stop (Barbes-Rochochuart...sp?). The rooms were nice, but the shower section was very small. Not a lot of room to change. Blankets were a little smelly, but they did change the sheets everyday!

"free wifi" is only from 9 am to 18:00...useful... Staff is unwilling to help, and it's in a super sketchy area.

DISASTRO!

The emplyees were really cordial. But the owner, an old woman, really scared me. Sometimes she was screaming without a reason when calling with her son. We havent seen any cockroaches.

Some Frenchies told me that if I stayed at a £5 hostel in Stockwell & then went to bars in Piccadilly, I'd think London was a hole too. I agree, however: Ive never felt like 'our man in Tangiers' in London. Ive never had >5,000 people offer me knockoff cigs in London. We'd never serve non alcoholic beer at a major sporting event in London. Ive never had the choice of either buying a tube ticket off someone wearing Nike Air Max's & a Le Coq Sportif hoody or using the 'jump' technique in London.

The hostel was clean enough however the locks on the doors stuck and it didn't look like there was much security within the confines of the hostel itself. There need to be more restroom and shower facilities.

Friends don't let friends stay at Friend's Hostel!... That afternoon-shift receptionist (the one with an eyeglass) was cool though.

It was clean and there were beds. That was pretty much all I was looking for. The location is literally right off the Metro, less than 10 minutes from Gare du Nord, but it's a little far from the center of the city. All in all, I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for a cheap place to sleep. Very affordable!

I don't know why this hostel gets such a bad rap... For 15€ a night, you get quite a bit.. a kitchen, common areas, showers, the rooms are a bit too warm, but it's preferable to the alternative. The folks I shared a room with were all great, on excellent adventures and ready to share their travel experiences. There's only one person working the desk, constantly checking folks in and out, answering questions and phone calls and it's clear that he's overwhelmed but still manages to be polite.

I was very satisfied with my stay here. It was the cheapest accommodation I could find for the weekend and it was a good value. The bed was comfortable and my room of 6 had an ensuite bathroom and clean shower which was very nice. Don\'t be put off by reviews about the location. It is to at all dangerous and the metro could not be more conveniently located.

This is located in the worst neighborhood in Paris, but its close to the metro stop so that isn't my issue with it. Here are a list of things I did not like -Blankets hadn't been washed and smelled like BO -3 older creepy french men in the room with us who were from Paris -Did NOT have a locked luggage room -No lockers in room -No lock on door -There was no hotwater to our MOLDY shower -The common bathroom had barf In the words inscribed on the top of a bunk "This place Sucks ya Mother '09"

This hostel is in a very unsafe neighborhood of Paris, and the website does a poor job of indicating that. To quote a previous guest of Friends hostel (written on the underside of a bed) "This place sucks ya motha '09"
