Property Information:
Welcome to our friendly, laid-back hostel, your comfy co-op home in Houston!
We have tons of free stuff on offer, such as free Wi-Fi and Internet, clean linen and towel, free calls to anywhere in the USA, Mexico and Canada, free breakfast with oatmeal, toast and fruit, free coffee and tea and free customised local maps.
Plus we have a 24hr common room, 24hr hot showers and comfy bunk beds. We also have sturdy new lockers hand-made from army rocket boxes. There's laundry facilities and an indoor pool/spa nearby, with state-of-the-art equipment and a women-only area.
We're located in a historic four-plex house in downtown Houston's culturally-diverse Historic Quarter. There's tons of great restaurants and bars in the area, whether you're looking for BBQs, coffee and croissants, burgers, cocktails, giant Jenga or just an ice-cold beer - just ask us and we'll point you in the right direction!
If you love laid-back hostels managed with tender loving care, you'll feel right at home at our hostel. It's quaint, cosy and friendly. We especially cater to travellers who want to wind down, take it easy, chill out and enjoy an overall peaceful, fun good time.
We're close to Amtrak, Greyhound and all local public transport. It's a 10-minute walk from here to downtown, where you can catch a quick bus to the museum district and Herman Park. Purchase the City Pass when you arrive at our hostel and get discounts at NASA Space Centre, the Aquarium, Museum of Natural Science, Houston Zoo, the subway, Rothko Museum, the Menil (listed in the book '1000 Things You Should Do Before You Die'), Galveston Beach, Beavers For Texas Bar-B-Q and lots of bars and restaurants on Washington Avenue, just three blocks from us!
Danny, a former electrical engineer, and Leah, former high school English and speech teacher, look forward to welcoming you to Houston! We love helping travellers to make the most of their time and money while they're in Houston. Leah is a native Houstonian and knows many off-the-beaten-path hidden treasures! Danny teaches a complimentary self-defence class onsite, and as a military intelligence officer in the Army, trust us - he'll teach you some very cool moves! Plus he loves to share his knowledge; ask him about the C241 move!
We look forward to becoming friends with you and unveiling all the local treasures, because that's who we are - friendly by name, friendly by nature!
Please note that guests must be at least 18 years old.
Please note that one party can't book more than one private room at a time.We exist as a shared environment; given that, the purpose of our hostel is to provide as many beds as possible to backpackers so that they are able to travel safely & get a cheap, clean bed, free wi-fi, some complimentary coffee or tea, & a hot shower.

Latest Review
FriendsHouse is a solace retreat for the weary traveler jaded by the prototypical hostel experience in many metropolitan cities. My stay was a relaxing and healthy experience. Leah and Danny have provided an atmosphere that attracts good souls in pursuit of Zen. Go if you are in search of something and do not need companions as your backbone. Food was always provided: cereals, oatmeal, toast, coffee, assortment of different teas. Keep in mind, you have to be elsewhere b/w hours of 12-4PM.

During this time, staff will clean the Bathrooms, Kitchens, Floors, etc. so that the hostel is in top shape when guests arrive back in the evening after they have explored our wonderful city (Space Center, Museum District, Aquarium, Discovery Green, The Chase Observatory, 60th Floor, just to name a few). This is also our time to check in new guests who are arriving. We like to give them a customized map tutorial of our local Historic neighborhood as well as the Downtown area. We also go over rules, etc. during this time. The 12pm - 4pm lockout is enforced everyday. If you're new to hosteling, you may not know that this is standard operating procedure in many hostels, especially smaller independent hostels. We inform all guests at check in that there is a mandatory lock out from 12pm - 4pm.
