Stayed because of the location. A bit worn out. Too many negative signs on the walls, you don't feel welcome at all. 5 free to use computers which is nice. Ok place to sleep with ear plugs but wouldn't stay long. Would consider other hostels.

Great nightly events makes this a really fun, social place to stay right in the heart of the city. There are also five free computers to use that don't seem as slow as others mentioned. The place is cleaned all the time, making it the cleanest hostel that I have stayed at.

Great location some of the staff were awesome. They do some kind of social event every night so its easy to meet people. It is much cheaper to book online with the deals they have here than it is to book at the hostel. I stayed in the 12 bed dorm and had a locker but the room door was left open almost all the time. There is a 14 bed room for people who are looking to stay long term too. There is free internet but only on the 5 computers provided. The library is close though

Great location! Good security measures! Bright rooms. The internet was free on the hostel computers; 2 of the five did not seem to be working but I had no problem being able to use one of the 3 when I needed one. There was a little problem with small ants in the kitchen and they should probably buy new sheets.

The staff were really friendly and helpful - both in finding things to do and in generally helping out - they even plugged in my ipod for me when it died. The activities like movie night brought people together, and free internet and a large kitchen space were nice perks. The hostel is very basic, but totally adequate - good location and nice people. I'd stay here again (and I am picky!)

Conveniently placed in the center of Auckland. However charging 10 dollars for 12 hours Wifi is WAY too much. The most i have been charged in any other hostel was 4 dollars for 24 hours and i see no reason why it should be so much more here. The 'free' shared computers were also a joke - very very slow and always busy. In addition my room was opposite an all night car park which meant artificial light coming in the window all night which the flimsy curtains did nothing to prevent.

Kitchen cleaning during rush hour is a nono. Besides that: I don't like longstayhostels. I like travellershostels. Good enough for an overnight stay though.

The staff were friendly, the location was good, but the room was extremely hot, very loud (right on a busy street) and it was nearly impossible to get a good nights sleep.

Most things were good, like the beds and the safety with the key-pad-doors. Tidiness was not always the best., rooms can be cleaned twice a week and the bathrooms were kinda old. Also the kitche-equipment wasn´t the best. Good thing was also to have a locker in the rooms, but why is there no key?! All in all it was value for money

This was a fantastic place to stay with excellent facilities. The location was very central to the heart of the city, being very easy to reach by bus from and to the airport. The security is well-covered for with lockers in the rooms for guests to use. Atmosphere is great with the main communal areas being a great place to meet people.

Good location with a very friendly staff. Parking is expensive but convenient. If you absolutely had to stay in Auckland this wouldn't be a bad place. I would recommend you don't waste a day in Auckland though. The city is boring. After landing at airport immediately go to some outlaying area.

Movie night, free bbq night, poker night, and the pub crawl nights were fun. Many backpackers staying here clean for 2 hours a day to earn free nights, so its spotless for a hostel. Staying on a weekly rate of $140 only saves you $1/day over the online rate, and you stay in a room with other long termers who are working locally. All in all, a clean spot in a good location at a good price. Would definitely change the policy of not allowing weekly rates to be extended a few additional days.

Security was excellent but the showers and kitchen could have done with a thorough clean. Our main concern though was the noise: our room overlooked the internal courtyard where people can sit and chat. The hostel says its meant to close at 10pm but both nights we stayed there the noise continued until the early hours of the morning so we didn't get much sleep.

Bad atmosphere, dingy place. Couldn't wait to leave. Don't stay in the CBD, it's not nice. Positives, staff were nice, free ice cream one night, easy to get to anywhere in the city,

Frienz is a nice hostel. I enjoyed having the kitchen to myself on several occassions and they play a lot of movies in the lounge at night - one night they seemed to be marathoning star wars which was cool. They also have computers with free internet which, even though theyre a bit slow and dated, definitely adds to the value.

All in all I had a good time and felt safe and the staff and other backpackers were friendly, The building was a little old and some of the flooring in the bathroom was coming up which was trapping water underneath it,very unhygienic!! Other than that I had a great time.
