This was the first hostel I stayed at in New Zealand, and it was a perfect first. The staff is very friendly, the location is superb, and the facilities are decent. The showers are hot and the rooms are comfortable, and there are small lockers in the rooms for your valuables. They also have events every night which is good for meeting people. Everything is cleaned twice daily and it is generally a very clean place. I would definitely stay here again!
I stayed here twice thinking it was the best I could find in the CBD, but after the second time I decided, never again! The dorms are only thoroughly cleaned once a week, the kitchen is teeny tiny and always full of dirty dishes, staff are super cliquey and mostly talk to the long term guests. TV area is decent and I found some great books in the library. Nightly events are not really explained so you never know how anything works. And the beds were super uncomfortable!
Location, location, location. Frienz backpackers have best location. You won't spend a dollar with transportation to Auckland's main sites such as Queen St. (Just around the corner), Sky tower, the Viaduct area, Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland's University, also K Road and Auckland Domain. It has the perfect atmosphere if you traveling with friends or by yourself. It got Plenty of activities such as Pub night (Where you win a free drink and prizes are drawn), free icecream and free barbecue.
Perfect location right in the city! 5 min walk to the sky tower and the Main Street with tons of shopping. Countdown just down the street. Lovely staff really enjoyed my stay here!
FRIENZ is located in a good location in central Auckland. The near Albert Park was a nice escape from the noisy city centre. My large dorm room was crowded, due to the concert on the weekend, the window was facing the busy Victoria Street. The facilities where alright. Clean toilets and showers. Less the Kitchen area. Staff was friendly. Atmosphere was 'backpacker-boring'. :)

Located as centrally as possible, which is convenient for seeing the city. However, our room overlooked the street and the curtains blocked out little to no sunlight, so all the drunken ramblings of people on the street were heard late at night, before being woken quite early by the sun coming straight in through the window. Despite that, we had a great time at this hostel and would recommend this hostel to others who were planning on visiting Auckland.
Only stayed here for one night but I'm quite glad - lacked any decent atmosphere but was perfect for just sleeping in if you're busy during the days. Really in the heart of Auckland so location was good and you need a code to get in the door so it's all very secure. Beds weren't very sturdy though and there was like 1 electricity socket in the whole room for over 10 people.

No free wifi. Scale broken. Nice but busy staff
Free bbq was a nice touch! Had a great night on the roof. The staff was very friendly.
If you're 19 and wanna party, you'll like it. If not, then probably not. It's really loud from the street as well and I'm usually not that fuzzed about noises...
Perfect location, big equipped kitchen, 1 min waking from the bus stop for/from the airport. Right in the heart of Auckland. Sky Tower 6min walking, Brittomart just 10min walk. Helpful staff and clean.
I can't fault this hostel at all! It's in a great location and the minute I got there the staff made me feel right at home! I stayed in the 12 bed dorm and aside from a couple loud neighbours, the room was great; clean and had loads of space. Just don't accidentally lock yourself out of the room! Or you'll have to carry the massive ballsack keychain to your room :')
I found this hostel very unfriendly, including the staff who didn't appear to want to help you with anything. The room was cramped and noisy. A lot of the people appeared to be living there and ready had friend groups. No free wifi and the computers are super slow. The only good thing is the location. Probably best to stay somewhere else
Only 4 old computers, you have to pay for wifi and its quite expansive.
This place had some of the coolest staff and management I have come across so far. As for the atmosphere was a bit off because it was cliquy but there were still some of the strays willing to socialize with people not from the same country. Bathroom and showers were great. Some of the cleaning staff were rude tho. One girl listening to her music rudly slammed her cleaning supplies on the table I eas eating at and sprayed while I was still eating... Location is great. Tiz a good place to staY!
Frienz is very well located, just 5 min walk to auckland tower and 10 min walk to the pier. The stuff was very kind and helpful, moreover the place is clean. It is a very good place for meeting people, plus it has got all facilities (only wifi is not provided for free but internet is available for computers with no extra cost). We also could leave out luggage in a secure spot after checkout
Excellent hostel, nice common room area, lots of free stuff like BBQs on Fridays and ice cream in Wednesday. The Thursday pub crawl is decent too, not like normal ones where you get ripped off and the bars are lame. Re other comments about the dirty bathrooms, they have had a complete makeover and are brand new so all good.
