I highly recommend Galata West. I had a perfect stay here! The location is practical - between lively Istiklal Street and Galata bridge that leeds you to Sultanahmet (the area with Hagia Sophia, The Blue Mosque, Topkapi etc.). The staff was extremely kind and helpful at all times, and it was definitely value for money.

It was a bit hard to find the hostel, so look on the map before, or just print it out and take it with you. But once finding the place it was very nice there. I stayed there with a (girl) friend and we had no problem finding all the sites we needed to see because it's all near the hostel. They have a beautiful view from the terrace on top of the building. And what we liked most was being able to relax in the noiseless hostel after a busy day wandering all about Istanbul.

Terrace was nice. I have also met some american guys in here :) Restrooms were clean but some times they forget to change the empty toilet paper rolls. When I remind them they changed it as soon as possible.

Thanks guys for everthing :) The staffs were really friendly and helpful. they helped me about keeping our bicycle. The hostel was very close to the night life and clubbing area. We stayed at six-bed room. The room was large and clean. Also, the view from terrace was wonderful but they have a long stair :) I will come back

Not for the claustrophobic because of the way the building is so tall an narrow, but we thought it was a great deal and would definitely go back.

The breakfast is not good., only bread and tea provided. No cereal, no milk no ham. No elevator is very bad. Btw, I cant get sleep at the nighttime. I heard loud Islam song at 4/5 am. It is troublesome! Dont expect anything, just for a bed, not party, you wouldnt meet others

Owner Comment (Show)
Dear Customer, As a first you can find the details of the breakfast we offer at hostelworld.com. We never claimed that we offer milk, ham or cereal. But we offer jam, cheese, chocolate, butter and honey. Please, check it again the details of breakfast from the web site. When it comes to the reason of your difficulty in sleep, here is İstanbul, an islamic city in an İslamic country. In here we listen Ezan, pray call, 5 times a day and its everywhere in İstanbul. I think you should respect beliefs of countries. Didnt you know that you are coming to an İslamic country ? by the way, as we are very close to İstitklal street, the heart of night life clubs and bars, we try to keep the hostel for the customers who want to have rest and some sleep.

The room was somehow clean (the bed sheets weren’t) but the shower and the toilets were a disaster, the shower seems to have no cleaning in the last semester! And the constant smell to humidity wasn’t pleasant at all. The staff was friendly, the location was not as good as it says, it was hard to find the hostel, there’s a small sign and the area is kind of spooky at night. I wouldn’t stay there again and I definitely do not recommend it. I don't understand why the 90% rating!

Owner Comment (Show)
Dear Alejandro, All rooms are cleaned before arrival of the customers and we clean our bed sheets in our washing machine. There are times we clean it twice. So, I dont accept your comments about cleanliness of the hostel. In the comment section, you cant see any negative comment about our cleanliness. The showers and restrooms are cleanede everyday by cleaning lady. When it comes to the location, we have been located one of the best part of city. Its between the Galata Tower and İstiklal Street. And you didnt like it. thats crazy. If I had come to the hostel at 2 am, the area would make me feel spooky also. People sleep at that time Mr. Alejandro, they dont work at that time ;) Maybe thats why. And when it comes to the signs, believe me no private priporty are allowed to place a big sign or anything except public building. Your comments are not fair, I quess you confused a hostel with a hotel.

The best hostel in Istanbul. Great people are working there. Excellent service. High quality rooms and bed sheets. Breakfast is good. Showers are clean. The terrasse gives an outstanding wiew of Istanbul monuments: Galata Tower, Sultan Ahmet etc... Very calm distric 5 minutes from the Galata tower, 10 from Istiklal et not so far from any good place in Istanbul. I always stay in this hostel. I recommend it to anyone who want to have a good and peacefull stay in istanbul.

Staff were great, hotel was in a decent location, but pretty deserted at night. Close to Galata tower, and walking distance to the major attractions on the other side of the river. We were put on the fifth floor, which meant 6 flights of winding staircase anytime we wanted to come back to the room, and we were right below the kitchen. Definitely request to be put lower, as you can hear everything that is happening above you. Bathrooms and room were clean, felt safe while we were there.

Absolutely loved my stay at the Galata West Hostel. The staff were super friendly and helpful and for the price in Istanbul I have no complaints at all. Loved being on the Galata Tower side of Istanbul as there are a bunch more places for cheap eats rather than the more touristy side (Sultanhamet) which is only a short 10 min walk down the hill to the metro system and a 2 Lira ride anyway. Also they are bike friendly which as a cycle tourist makes a huge difference to where I stay.

We stayed 2 nights in Galata West Hotel. The last eveninng we had a long talk while smoking a waterpipe with a member of the staff (very very nice) and another french couple. It was really ralexing and very "turkish" ! We had to leave very early to go to the aeroport. they called us a taxi at 4 a.m ! The hotel is located in the center of Galata (5 min walk to Beyoglu). From the terasse we have a beautiful view from Istanbul ! Magic

The Hostel was in a fantastic location for us, being a little off the beaten track. The staff were friendly and helpful. Be aware that the breakfast is only small but the view from the roof is fantastic.

mention other shop names or buildings near the hostel as it was pretty hard to find. it was kind of in a blindspot. perhaps bedsheets could be in a different color as yellowish white gives an impression that it is dirty. bottled water for guests can be provided too. otherwise, great and friendly service, good location (very accessible to all tourist hotspots) and value for money! double bed rooms or the larger side-by-side twin bed rooms are neat and clean and spacious. keep it up! :)
