A relaxed place to stay. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Even though there is a bar, there is not too much party noise. The rooms facing the street can be a bit noisy. The house animals is a nice touch.

friendly staff. Cool look ( could lose the pirate trimmings). Hostel is a little too compact to allow smoking (there's nowhere to go to get away from smoke. Maybe they good pick up a room in the next building for smokers.

The lovely wee Scottish lass who joint-runs this hostel was amazingly helpful with information and maps and the smoking area/bar is a nice place to drink and socialise, the dorms were comfortable too. I hate to mention it but I feel you need to take it into account when staying here - the North American partner and co-owner is very very rude. If it wasn't for my time with him, this would have been one of the best hostels I stayed in in Central America.

I wouldn't recommend for anyone to stay at Galileo, There are better hostels in San Jose. The staff there were friendly and we really appreciated the local beer they serve at their bar! They also have a very cute hostel dog. Nearby traffic makes the hostel very noisy and gives a bad night's sleep. The manager at the hostel pretty much kicked us out at 2:00pm the day we checked out (at 11am). Another girl whose bus left at 11pm was kicked out with us! Don't stay here under any circumstance.

Fun and groovy. Definitely more for the party crowd but not noisy or obnoxious.

Really great hostel, if you like to chill. They are always very helpful and if you like you can have a drink or two at the bar!

Great hostel! Staff is great, beds are comfortable, location is good (walkable to downtown, buses, grocery stores, etc) If you need to stay in San Jose, stay here! ... the only thing is I could never get the water to get hot for the showers, but that's the only problem!

This place was awesome. My boyfriends flight didn't get in when I was supposed to be staying there with him. The staff made me feel at home and there's always someone at the bar to chat with you and give you drinks. Or even if you just want to check something out on wifi and relax you can do that too. They make you feel super comfortable and if somethings sketching you out they're glad to take care of it. This spot was super colorful making it impossible to wake up on the Wrong side of the bed.

Nice hostel with nice staff. The animals that live in the hostel is a nice bonus! Also the bar, with a lot of different kind of beers.

Loved the feel of the hostel and the location but come on charging me for a bottle of water when your pipes were broken and you had no running water for 6 hours.. Also came back and my bed was taken by someone else and my stuff was thrown all over the floor and was told to find another bed.. well only bed was a crappy bed in the middle of the living room. Also no outside alchohol kind of forces you to drink in house but it was good prices and we had a great time in the bar so no complaints there

I'll keep this short.... No one should EVER stay at this place (Under current conditions and current ownership). Needless to say, I won't ever stay there again, and will definitely steer anyone I know away from it!!!!!

I arrived in San Jose in a bad mood and without luggage. The staff of Galileo gave me a beer and even some of their own clothes. All of the staff and the owner live on site.. so it really makes you feel at home. Having traveled a lot and spent 3 years working in hostels (wombats), I can only recommend Galileo for their amazing staff and great atmosphere.
