They are good hostel who get used to treat foreign travellers. They have a few good staff. But there is nothing standing out except for it. Something would have been lacked from the situation of 2010 when they won Hoscar Award, maybe.

We stayed here for one night in San Jose. The hostel was definitely well kept, fully equipped and the staff knew what they were doing (helpful with bus directions and accommodating us where they could). We had some trouble finding the hostel, it seemed kind of out of the way when walking from the bus terminal, but after caving and getting a cab, the driver knew the place by name so I think that says something too. Very nice place, Definitely Recommend it.

My room was very big and I had my own TV. The only two things that were not so good were that it is noisy at night because of the street and I had some bugs in my bathroom but besides that the hostel is very clean and the atmorsphere is great. They aswell have a very good breakfast.

I picked a private suite for 1 person (had to pay for 2 though). Bed mattresses aren\'t a good match for the bed\'s horizontal bars(frame). They\'re too thin & you can feel bars thru mattress. Once I put \"mattress\" directly on the floor it was good. But as you can imagine, some ppl might not feel comfortable doing this. And this does take alot of room space up. Not HUGE deal once sleeping though. Other than that, place was ideal if you are not at hostel much. Free brkfast/free wifi major plus!

The never-ending coffee and the breakfast were great. The proximity of the supermarket was also a bonus. In addition, the Ticabus station is just around the corner.

Four of us staying at the hostel, couple in each room. One couple moved due to a horrible mattress, dirty bathroom and a door that wouldn't lock. Other couple was asked to switch mattresses themselves if they did not like the mattress. The "orthopedic" mattresses are really cheap, worn out foam mattresses. One room with cable TV and one without, same price. Hostel made ~$5 extra on exchange and we paid in local currency. Uninterested staff. Cool common area convenient location.

Friendly staff. Nice areas to relax and talk to fellow backpackers. Some rooms need a new coat of paint and some minor carpentry/repair.

I had hoped to book many more reservations for Gaudys Backpackers Hostel, but after this experience I doubt that will happen. The hostel itself seemed clean, safe, very conveniently located, and comfortable, just horribly managed. We did not expect a hotel experience, just that a reservation be honored without it seeming like a huge imposition on the staff.

Good atmosphere in the various open areas. An interior paint job with some accent colour walls would give the whole place a facelift. Reservations needs work. Made a reservation in person at the desk for 3 days ahead. Ended up in the hallway.... a great solution for emergencies but, with a confirmed reservation I should have been in a room!

Fast internet, which was a great change. 15-20 min to city centre, staff were helpful.

Gaudy's was close to a grocery store, the bus lines, the art center, a bank, and had great tours available. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were small, but adequate. There was a lot of fresh air that circulated throughout the building. It was located in the San Jose city, so there was a lot of traffic noise. The lounge for guests was large and comfortable. We would recommend this hostel.

It is a average Hostel nothing special and the atmosphere was quite poor, a lot of old people and no real backpacker stayed there. The staff was helpful but couldn`t give any real good or special advise. The kitchen had pretty much everything but not a lot and things you always need and never want to carry around like oil. It was ok to stay there for one or two nights but i wouldn`t recommend to stay there longer because for the some money you can find something nicer.

Second stay here, really good again! I love the location, safe area full of shops and restaurants, near a supermarket. 2 blocks from Paseo Colon - a bus downtown costs 165 colones, a taxi 2000 colones. Again, people were great, very friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
