Very clean and polished hostel, since Generator is a chain. Nice to have security at the door as well. In terms of location, it was nice to be right near the train station, but the area in the other direction was a bit sketchy.
sometime after housekeeping the floor will still remain some hair or dust
Location is perfect for travellers who are new to Hamburg. It's super close to the train station and very easy to find. The beds are super comfortable. Some staff were extremely hospitable, others were just so-so. Perhaps ue to Generator's size, they can't be as attentive as other hostels. The bathrooms are tiny, and you just have a half a sink. But otherwise, it was okay.

We weren't totally in love with this hostel. It was right next to the main train station, which is convenient but also not exactly the nicest area. It wasn't as clean as most Generators, the hallways smelt a little funky. Our room was so, so hot in the mornings even with the window and curtains closed - like unbearably so! Staff wasn't as friendly as other Generators I've stayed at. Nonetheless, the bar and restaurant on site were fantastic.
GOOD: Busy HUGE hostel with lots of space. Breakfast costs about 5euro but its pretty good and nice and convenient. Location is absolutely amazing. Literally a 30 seconds walk to both the main train station and the main bus station. BAD: They quadruple (4X) room prices for FRI and SAT nights which I find very offensive, Ensuites in rooms cannot fit a human (smaller than airplane toilets), even hobbits would struggle to fit. Bar and reception is almost always understaffed.. Would stay again
Some staff could be a bit more hospitable, but all in all it's a good hostel. Also our restroom door was broken and wouldnt close..
There are too many people to a room. Eight in 5 by 3 metre space. The miniscule bathrooms add to the feeling of being squeezed into a cramped cell. The beds shake when people get in and out of bed, when the doors slam shut and even when people move in their sleep. The ceilings are nice and low, so every scuffle and sound is enhanced. (I, of course, had to be a contributor to the general noise and probably annoyed the people I was crammed in with). The 'communal' area was pathetically small. Hate

I only stayed for one night, and I have no complaints. The lounge was really cool, and made it easy meeting new people. The breakfast was not too expensive. I would definitely recommend it.
I am a coeliac and would appreciate the availability of either some GF bread or cereal with the breakfasts. Maybe I should have asked your staff but I did not.
The place is penny pinching, room too small for 8, toilet door handle broken, the bed moved everytime someone walked past, everything overpriced. Will be avoiding Generator Hostels from now on.
Very nice hostel. The location can't be better, in the street opposite to the central station. The place is clean and the facilities are great - restroom and shower in (each?) room. The bar and terrace will make you want to stay at the hostel for hours. The staff was not specially cool or friendly, but they did their job.
I have visited several hostels in my life and this one was simply the best. cheap, safe, modern, well located. perfect!
I believe there must be a flat rate for a bed in a hostel irrespective of the day of the week or current events in the city. However hostels in Germany, including the Generator, tend to increase the rate on weekends by at least 50%, and sometimes triple it in case of important local events.
Great hostel, very good facilities and super location. Great Wi-Fi connection and very clean, while the bar downstairs had a great atmosphere. The staff could lighten up a bit and be a bit more friendly though. Would definitely recommend!
I was only here for a night as a very short stopover because it was so close to the train station, but from my experience it seemed like a great hostel with a good atmosphere.
This was not a hostel, but a cheap hotel in a terrible location. If you love to be welcomed with rude people working at reception, very expensive breakfast for what you get, and the inability to order food at their bar (which they advertise as a super neato thing) because their cook was sick for 3 nights in a row (without a replacement), then this place is for you. Would not come back.
It's close to central station. Rooms are big and clean. Toilet and shower are way too small.
Would not stay there again

One of the best hostels I've ever used! I would recommend this hostel to anybody! The only thing that I was not so happy about was that lavatory and bathroom are TOO small...
Staff is nice and facilities are clean. I stayed in a 8 bed dorm and I had the chance to socialize with other guests. The bar is nice but beers/drinks are a bit overpriced, maybe Hamburg's prices. Downside is that there's no common kitchen or fridge for the guests. Patio is a plus. Generator looks more like a hotel than a hostel, but in general I was happy with the service. I will recommend this hostel.
