PROS: best sleep of the whole trip. The bunks are solid, they have a beautiful fluffed pillow and quilt, a reading lamp, privacy, and they have lockable storage underneath. Bathrooms are very clean however I hesitiated to use the shower as the glass screen is frosted but still quite see-through. Decor is fantastic. Common area is one of the best that I've seen. Only two stops from St Marcs Square (main part of Venice). CONS: common area is too big which can make it antisocial.
Really good place to stay to meet lots of people. Easy access into Venice.
1. Music from the bar plays in all the bathrooms, which means you can hear it from the rooms while you're trying to sleep! 2. Dorm rooms had a window connecting them - if the room next door has its light on while you want to sleep, you can't get the room dark! 3. It's on Giudecca - you have to take a boat to get to Venice! 4. Bathroom lights on motions sensor - light will go off while you're at the sink! 5. FLIES in the bathroom! Overall one of the poorer hostel experiences I've had.
We had a party in a Saturday night in this hostel and that was brilliant and exciting. I loved this place but somehow I paid much more than my other roomates paid for our same room. I don't know why that happened but it's not good. Well except that, I really loved this place for sure!
Non lockable showers, and groups of school kids on trips taking up the place.
Generator Venice has great interior design for a hostel, I'm designer I can say much about it. the poor thing is, bathroom, C'mon, do you guys really just clean the bathroom only once for 24 hours? I woke up at 8 o'clock in the morning and there was condom thing, bottles of beer etc on the floor.
Is bit away from the main island .. Those boats take forever to reach from point A to b.. But the everything else is nothing short of amazing.
Close to the water, and just at one of the water bus stop, which means perfect location! Nice staffs, and clean rooms.
Unreal bar atmosphere& the staff let us bring in our own booze (or just didn't say anything) and only complained when we were being too loud (there were kids around & we got pretty sloshed) but then left us alone. No kitchen, but cheap food can be found inside Venice. Get the student Vapiatto pass (18€) or don't bother since they never check. Close to a grocery store, wifi was fantastic. Comfy beds, good lockers, the usual hotel like hostel.
Quality of a hote, price of a hostel. 100% recommend

Not on main island but you can use the Hilton water bus for free if you walk to the Hilton (about 15mins walk) it runs twice an hour, saves 14euros a day
The hostel has just been through a renovation, with a new bar and a common area. Bathrooms are smaller, but that was no big deal. Breakfast now costs 3,50, which is not much for Venice. The new look is kind of kitsch, but it's nice to have lots or couches and even a fake fireplace where you can just relax and meet other travelers. There are more parties now. I regret that the staff wasn't willing to change my room when I've asked for the one I had 2 years ago with an awesome view to the Canale.
My fiance and I stayed for four nights. It was a nice atmosphere, and clean. The location was easy to figure out how to get to San Marco, and Murano, etc. The beds were comfortable and there are places to store belongings under the beds, so if you have a lock, it's quite secure. We were glad to have chosen this hostel. Breakfast was okay, enough to fuel you, but not a huge selection (bread, cheese, meat slices, jams, coffee). Overall, glad we stayed and would stay there again and recommend it.
Hostel is on Giudecca, so it is a quiet island for a hostel. While the Generator has awesome facilities and a great bar it was pretty quiet for the duration of the stay, although this was October. Maybe run some events in the evening? No privacy in the showers either, the doors are practically transparent so can see right through when people are showering
Super clean, beds were really comfortable with personal charge points, great wifi everywhere. The location is incredible, on an island and only 5mins from San Marco! However to get here you HAVE to get a water bus which is like €7/trip (much cheaper for students with multi day passes) and like 45mins from St Lucia station so factor that into your budget/timing.
Nice hostel a short boat trip from the main part of Venice. Not a great atmosphere though and the shared bathrooms were way too small for the amount of people.
Although you need to take a water bus to get there, the scene from opposite the St. Marco will amaze you. But when there is too many bunks in the hostel, toilets cannot be very clean.
Much better than it needed to be given that it's the only hostel in Venice, I'll be looking out for Generator hostels in future. Bunks are very comfortable with light, power points each. Security a bit iffy, the door to my dorm never seemed to be closed and I had to use my key card to unlock it so I could close it. Each bed has a lockable trunk though. There's a bar downstairs if you want to meet people. Best to buy a ferry pass as its off the main Island.
