I loved everything about his hostel except that they are bit deceiving about their party atmosphere. There were posters around for Friday DJ night, there was no DJ at the actual stand, the bar closed at 1 am on Friday night despite advertising in the bar and on the website that they are open until 2, and the kitchen wouldn't serve food after 10 pm, despite advertising being open until 10:30 pm and the staff was very rude on both accounts when we asked why this was happening.
Perfect hostel. across the river from the city center. 5 minute boat ride that comes every 15 minutes.. Not a bad place. Good layout, clean as well. Irish bartender is awesome too... But charging for maps is a bit dumb given the price of the hostel itself.
This was my first hostel experience and I think the bar is set very high now. It was a great place. Awesome atmosphere, clean and very friendly staff. Will definitely stay with Generator again!

After visiting the Generator Venice for the third time, I can with outmost certainty say that this is one of the best hostels out there. Everything is how it's supposed to be. The staff is helpful and kind, but also very open and playfull. Every facilitie is whitin the same building and the view at night is absolutely stunning. Definitely recommend this hostel!
Staff friendly on arrival, although they change 50c for a map, where every other hostel (Generator ones included) give it to you for free. Rooms spacious, comfortable beds. Showers seemed clean, although not set up very clever. Nowhere to put your clothes, except one rail that barely fits your towel. Practically have to get out of the shower naked to get your stuff. Location average, as this is off the main island of Venice.. Two boat stops away! Ordered a pizza which took 30 mins, tasted ok.
Everything was great! The only issue is that you need to take the water bus to get to the main island but the stop was close so this was only a very mild inconvenience. Fantastic hostel!
Very nice hostel. There is air and the bar was great. I would stay here again.
Overall a great place to stay in Venice. There were some really nice staff especially from the bar, but the staff member who checked me when I arrived was not very friendly or helpful. Good atmosphere and bar with really good prices.
I got a 60 year old lady in my room that wouldn't stop complaining all day long. The men's bathroom was out of order and so I had to use the woman's shower room and the old lady was in there bitching about my presence. The lobby had an alright vibe but nothing really fantastic, and its on a totally other island so you have to take a boat anywhere even if its for a meal.
Beautiful place to stay!! Staff were amazing, friendly and helpful and offered all kinds of advice. Dorms were clean and accessible - ensuite bathroom was clean, well maintained and worth the extra $$. Atmosphere was perfect and drinks were cheap, varied and tasted amazing. Beautiful view of Venice from the hostel, and it's right on the river - was amazing to sit outside the hostel and watch the sun set over Venice. Would 10/10 recommend.
As with all Generator hostels I've stayed at, it's a top class hostel. This is just one water-bus stop away from the center, so it's actually very close although you're on a separate island. Beds were nice, storage to lock with your own padlock. The bar at the hostel was very cosy as well. Had cheap drinks and chatty staff. Only bad thing is I was to pay 3€ per night of the stay due to some membership of Hosteling International. It wasn't very obvious when booking the room.
Appeared clean but a lot of dust in rooms and rugs downstairs covered in hair. Staff really let the whole place down. It seems the young staff aren't being watched closely enough by superiors. Two girls on reception openly laughed at a guest once he walked away in front of me and others. Another member of staff was extremely sarcastic and rude to me after reporting a faulty socket in the room after getting an electric shock from it.
Rooms are kind of small. The pipes in the building went out and people were asked to recheck-in the next day.The location is the worst. The main mode of transport in Venice is by boat. Getting to the main island or any of the little islands takes forever. Overall and good place to stay and to meet people.
Definitely the best hostel I've stayed at. Yeah, it's a little bit on the pricy side but to me it was worth the money. Facilities were clean and the bar/kitchen area always had something going on since there's not much nightlife in Venice. There was plenty of hangout room and they had multiple options for breakfast (yum). Most of the staff at the front desk was friendly except for one girl who was kind of rude. The view from the hostel was completely breathtaking. Overall I enjoyed my stay!!
Hotel hostel but I don't think you will get anything else in Venice. Really close boat ride to st. Marks. Follow their instructions and get the boat pass. It's about 27 euros for three days. Also they charge 2 euro extra a night of your not a hosteling international member. I paid with card and they charged me in usd along with exchange rate of 3%. Ask staff to charge me in euro but they had no clue how to change it. Wasn't worth any more of my time but wish they had just charged me in euro.
Awesome hostel located just a quick ferry-ride away from the city centre. We were there on a Monday night, and they had karaoke and drink specials from their bar. A really fun atmosphere. The only thing is that we were on a floor with over 40 people, and the bathrooms only had two showers (for the females), and only one mirror. Not ideal at all. Great hostel otherwise.
Fun place to stay. I was there on a Tuesday night and it was still a great crowd at night. Well priced drinks, karaoke. Do note it is not in the main island so you will need to take the ferry which is €7,50 per ride or €20 for 24 hours.
The hostel itself was great. It was a perfect location to view the Festa del Redentore fireworks! The only bad thing was that Generator Venice is a part of some kind of network of hostels and you need to be a member to stay there, so we ended paying an unexpected 40 Euro extra for that. Towels are not provided in the multi-person dorms, but if you don't have one you can pay extra for one. Overall, we had a really great experience an met a lot of interesting people.

Comfortable beds. Easily accessible via ferry. Has laundry and good showers with clean and comfortable beds. Bar is really busy. The breakfast buffet they sell you when you arrive is a bit of a ripoff... get a regular breakfast instead. Also note you need a generator membership which was an extra cost I may have overseen... I think 4 euro. Two small complaints on an otherwise nice hostel. Would go back.
Staff need to be trained at offering tourist suggestions. Weren't very knowledgeable or helpful. Breakfast was disappointing
