I was very pleased with my stay at Gilligans. We were in room 331 which was fortunately quiet. If you are not a party animal I would advise requesting a quieter area as one friend was in a room and was kept up by music. Modern bathroom, spacious room, very comfy beds and great kitchen and TV room. Wifi is also $2 for 24 hours of unlimited which was great! I would 100% stay here again and for a new hostel user that's very pleasing :)

I stayed for a week in this place, I got a room but apparently there was an overbooking, then I got a different one, no sleeping at night, every night till 6 or 7am making noise inside the dorm! this hostel is just a spring break place, they just simple want your money they dont care if you're comfortable, it's a huge hostel, so I wouldn't say staff are friendly, you just pay and get a key card that's all service next! You can have fun it's just DEPENDS ON who are you with

Great stay, right in the city + awesome nightlife.

Gilligan's was bomb. My favorite hostel in Australia. Their club is pretty good and there are great drink deals each night. The rooms are cleaned daily and the balcony is a great touch. Their staff is really nice and informative. I had a great time in Cairns because of my stay here!

Told security was good however people were able to let themselves in using other people card so we ended up with more people than we should in the room

The staff is almost perfect, the only exception is the manager( JOSHUA) who was really rude sometimes. During the check-in after I sign the paper of It, and start to read it, he complain that I had already sign, so read it was worthless. I told him that I could find some error and rip the paper to ask a new check in. He answer saying, if you do it, you are going sleep on the street. So rude, however the others guys are amazing.

Nice hostel in a convenient location, easily accessible from the bus station. I only stayed for one night before taking a flight and I was happy with my choice. Does seem like a party hostel though, even on a Monday night people were out in the halls til 4 a.m.

This is the party hostel of Cairns. All backpackers should stay here at least one night but don't expect much sleep, its a young persons hostel for sure! good facilities but think its a complete rip off that if you are staying in the hostel you still have to pay to get in the Gilligans bar. good atmosphere and good place to meet people. situated where everything happens and near everything you need! didn't use the the desk to book excursions but heard they are very helpful.

Just a terrible Hostel, the stuff is incredibly unfriendly and the security guys are checking your backpacks for alkohol, everytime you enter the hostel !!! There is no common room to meet any other travellers !! An other Disadvantage is the kitchen, as it is compleatly dirty and half the equipment does not work e.g the cooking plates !!! Worst Hostel i have ever stayed in and i am travelling for 11 months !! Gilligens is famous for beeing a party hostel but it is none at all, no BYO !!!!

One of the best hostels I've stayed in. Almost like a hotel. Each floor has a kitchen and common area. Rooms are on the small side but we didn't mind. The ensuite were nice and the whole place was pretty clean. Close to the bars, shops and the lagoon. The hostel pool was lush. The club was also a great night out and a lot of fun was had. We had a room at the front and could barely hear the club at all. Would definitely stay again :))

Nothing wrong with the hostel.. it feels more like first year uni again haha! Can't say much else other than if you like to party and stay up late then this is your scene.

Gilligans complex is cool, the hostel itself is just okay. Gorgeous pool area. Had some trouble with the others in our room but not the hostels fault, although you're more likely to get dirty people in a place with a party reputation than not. Staff were helpful and when moved rooms it was much better. Would stay again if had to but cheaper options seem as good. Great place for a weekend away or stag party.

You can pay to store luggage at the front desk, but no one checks to see if you actually have a bag there when you enter. The club is awesome. Lockers in rooms were too small for a laptop. Fun environment for meeting people!

Very nice hostel (overall high quality) but too much directed to young partying generation. I would not recommend, if you have more than 30 or you are not in the mood clubbing/partying.

everything is alright except people didnt behave well in the kitchen and the room, and it is a party place (every night!!). staff are welcoming and the location is accessible, they do the cleaning everyday, free sunblock and I got one night free for 5-day booking.

Gilligans is a hostel for the ones looking for fun and party in Cairns, they have something going on in their bar/club every night. I've stayed there because my group of friends booked there. Its nice to have the private bathrooms etc. all connected to the dorms. Downstairs its pretty noisy, but you can ask for a bed on the top floor where it is quiet for sleeping.

After coming from Asia it seemed really expensive. But you pay for the social life of it. The rooms are good, kitchen facilities and lounge on every floor are great. But you have to make your own beds and take them off, pay for wifi, pay for computers, the dinner deal is quite good. And you get discount on drinks. But they charge you to get in friday Saturday. And the rooms are extra on Fri sat sun than weekdays. Everyone knows this is the place to go so that's why they can charge so much.

great location, rooms with ensuite bathrooms that are cleaned daily, big kitchen but not enough possibilities to sit and eat. more like a hotel than a hostel. includes a massive pool, a bar/ Club/ Restaurant (you get a cute little bowl of food with every drink purchase), travel agent, ... twice a day annoying and loud announcements in the rooms but besides that a great place to stay :)
