Brilliant place! Basically a purpose built, modern, clean, a.c conditioned, well managed and helpful hostel!! Great excursions are specially organised through gilligans for great prices and the bar constable has something going on so you can have a good night out any day of the week!

Absolutely the worst place I've ever stayed. The room had zero air conditioning and was disgustingly hot. The bathroom was gross and the noise from downstairs was not consistent with sleep.

Great party hostel, if you want to get some sleep ask for a room facing away from the bar. Great pool. Balconies in room are great, more than 2 chairs in an 8 bed dorm would be nice though. Wasn't able to connect to wifi. Beds are large and comfy. No lockers in room. A/C worked well.

The staff in reception could have been more helpful and happier! It did not have a backpacker hostel feel but more of a young Ibiza lads holiday atmosphere. Our food was stolen from the kitchen (we weren't the only ones!) and the hostel staff did nothing, even when they had security cameras to be able to see who was doing it and chuck them out. The free evening meals were small and rubbish-the six nights we were there we had mince meat for 5 nights, chilli and savoury mince! Nice!

Really good hostel. There's nowhere else you would stay in Cairns. The rooms are tidy (perhaps a bit small and lacking in power sockets though). The free meal is really good and is cheap to upgrade too. Good party atmosphere but rooms are sufficiently sound proof if you want an early night every now and again. Kitchens on every floor was also a major positive.

huge hostel, with a kitchen on each level so its not the best place to meet people and hang out. as there is no general common area. Very good party place, but if you plan on sleeping it will be to the sound of thumping music. Staff were very nice. No toilets apart from those in bedrooms which can be annoying. Overall a great place to stay if you want to party at night and chill out by the pool during the day

Good party hostel. Always something going on in th bar each night. Don't be fooled by the free meal, small and tasteless, however for $7 you can upgrade to a decent meal which is still very cheap compared to eating out in most places. I've been to Gilligans twice now and would go back, very good hostel

was in a great location and was the best place to go and party. great place to stay for a friday/saturday night, but was not overall impressed by the cleanliness or security due to its large size and attitude of most of the people staying there.

Excellent hostel all facilities available. Don't be scared off by the nite club downstairs which is completely separate from the rooms so you can party or chill. Free dinners everynight which are grand and do the job. The food is excellent and cheap if the free meal don't suit you. We were in a spacious 4 bed ensuite. Kitchens on each floor if you need to cook but with the free meal I wouldn't bother. Only complaint is the staff could be a bit more polite on the front desk, only a minor complaint

This is a great place to stay if you want to use the bar and nightclub every night. However, it is noisy and the 8 bed dorms have very little space and no lockers, so the room was a mess due to peoples clothes and bags. The free meal is tiny so if you're hungry you need to pay $3 and even then the portion isn't very big. Also it is quite a walk from the supermarkets and main esplanade. Despite all of this I would probably stay again, as it was well run, with friendly staff & good travel advice.
