Gilligan's Backpacker Hotel & Resort Cairns Reviews

The room I stayed in smelled terrible, like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned for a while, damp and humid. The kitchens were clean in the morning but people made quite a mess throughout the day. No soap or hand towels in the bathrooms, otherwise decent rooms. Good sized rooms.

If you like a 24/7 party experience, this is the hostel for you. It has good facilities and is well situated in Cairns. My only quams was that I had to wear a coat to bed because we could not control the AC in our room and that the place could do with a little jazzing up , its very spartan and utilitarian, why not get some kids in to pain a murel or get some graff artists to do some wall pieces? Overall a lot of fun

Internet is not free and the isn't enough branch in bedrooms. Charge 10 dollars if you are late for the check out, even if you have to wait 1hour before to do it because there is so many people. Staff not funny.

Facilities WOW!!!!!!!! Loved loved loved this place!!!!! I almost fell over backwards when i walked in!!! Awesome lagoon pool, great bar, massive kitchens with plenty of space for your food and plenty of room!,, even at dinner time! Rooms are FLASH with ensuite! Staff are super nice and helpful!!! Central location and the best bar in cairns.... Never been to a hostel like it! You won't regret it!

Definitely the place to stay in Cairns very cheap and a good laugh.

Gilligan's is a great place to stay for cheap, nice accommodation. Don't expect a 5 star hotel, but it's a fab location and the staff is great. Gilligan's has one of the largest nightclubs in Cairns, and along with that goes loud guests, though the rooms are otherwise blocked from the outside noise. The rooms aren't hospital-grade sterilised but they're certainly not bad.

Great Hostel and Facilities. Pretty much a hotel in the form of a Hostel. The one major downside is if you have a room that faces the club you will get no sleep even if your on the third floor. You could hear the lyrics to every song they played and when the bass kicked it you knew about it. Not good when you have to get up for a tour at 6am and the club closes at 5am!

Ok for a group of teenagers ie wet tshirt competitions. Staff wernt very helpful, just gave basic information. Food was stolen from the fridge

Party hostel- think I was luck to get a room at the front where it is less noisy!! Great facilities and good cheap food deals. The staff were great. The rooms were cleaned every day but the drains still smelled a bit and general rubbish left in the rooms by people who had stayed before was a bit disgusting!

Had a great time at this hostel-stayed after recommendations from friends at another hostel. Clean rooms, nice people, great club inside, free food in the evening was also an added bonus. Will be back again!

well - it def. is a party hostel: but whats wrong with that? They have live-Bands, games at night going on - and best of all, free dinner, even though its every night something with minced.. :-) The pool was awesome! Nice to have it - in a hot, humide area!!! :-) I had fun - and well it could get noisy up to the 3rd floor - but I dont have problems with sleeping - so def. would stay there again!

It's a great place to party. Very loud but fun for a couple of nights. Staff was very unfriendly and did not seem to care about us at all. Internet is expansive. The pool and bar is great and people from around town come to party there at night as well so it gets really busy. The free meal was very basic but ok. It's a 5 min walk to the lagoon and there's a supermarket next door. Overall it's good, but don't expect to get that much sleep.

Best hostel I´ve stayed in! Rooms are clean, staff are amazing, security is sometimes too good and the bar is great. Free meals are standard but upgrades are good quality - there´s always something going on here! Had a brilliant stay!

Great hostel, lively and fun! Staff were really helpful and the rooms and facilities were top notch!

Brilliant place! Basically a purpose built, modern, clean, a.c conditioned, well managed and helpful hostel!! Great excursions are specially organised through gilligans for great prices and the bar constable has something going on so you can have a good night out any day of the week!

10 bed dorm is to loud to sleep from the music

Absolutely the worst place I've ever stayed. The room had zero air conditioning and was disgustingly hot. The bathroom was gross and the noise from downstairs was not consistent with sleep.

Great party hostel, if you want to get some sleep ask for a room facing away from the bar. Great pool. Balconies in room are great, more than 2 chairs in an 8 bed dorm would be nice though. Wasn't able to connect to wifi. Beds are large and comfy. No lockers in room. A/C worked well.

Location and cleanliness were perfect. Best backpackers in Cairns.

Reeally great place, love evrything, maybe a few more staff available at the front desk would be good.
